Prince Harry has done a lot of things in the past few years that angered his brother, Prince William. However, the latest one is entirely unexpected.
The Harry & Meghan documentary on Netflix has made a bad situation worse between the two siblings. After the death of Queen Elizabeth II in September, many saw a glimmer of hope for peace between King Charles III‘s two sons.
However, the good feelings fizzled quickly, and the bitterness between the two camps returned with a vengeance.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s docuseries was a big setback for those praying to see the two brothers come together. The Prince of Wales had a clear wish, and it seems The Duke of Sussex ignored it.
Kate Middleton‘s husband did not want a controversial interview featuring their late mother, Princess Diana, to ever be broadcast again.
However, Prince Harry opted to have a portion of it in the program. Last year, there was a massive uproar over the deception used by journalist Martin Bashir to land the Panorama interview.
Both brothers said at the time that tactics were horrendous and blasted the BBC for its handling of the matter. The renegade royal surprised many by using pieces of it in the documentary.
Prince Harry said the following about it in the docuseries: “I think we all now know she was deceived into giving the interview, but at the same time, she spoke the truth of her experience.”
For Prince William, this was a new breach of trust. Because his statement made clear that the interview had crossed so many lines.
It read: “It is my firm view that this Panorama program holds no legitimacy and should never be aired again. It effectively established a false narrative that, for over a quarter of a century, has been commercialized by the BBC and others. This settled narrative now needs to be addressed by the BBC and anyone else who has written or intends to write about these events.”
Prince William continued: “It is my view that the deceitful way the interview was obtained substantially influenced what my mother said. The interview was a major contribution to making my parents’ relationship worse and has since hurt countless others.”
Sources say Prince William is furious. While the two brothers agree that Bashir’s behavior is problematic, Prince Harry still found some value in the interview because his mother spoke “her truth.”
By using clips of it on Netflix, Prince Harry is making their differences public. While one brother is focusing on the voice of his mother being heard, the other one is keenly aware that the interview was terrible for the British monarchy, and he needs to treat it through that lens.
