After a three-year roller-coaster ride between Prince Harry and his father, King Charles III, the royals are finally working things out.
The father-son duo can thank the coronation ceremony for bringing them back together again. Royals sources from London and Montecito confirmed that many exchanges took place between Prince Harry and His Majesty.
The back and forths were cold and impersonal at first, with King Charles declining to speak to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
King Charles had his staff handle the negotiations with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
However, after Prince Harry confirmed that he would attend the crowning ceremony, King Charles was willing to speak to his son on multiple occasions.
A source close to Prince Harry and Markle told PEOPLE that the telephone conversations were positive.
The friend told the media outlet: “They didn’t hear from Charles. Harry wanted to hear from his father directly — it’s always through somebody. However, the estranged father and son ultimately connected — although not in person — and had positive conversations.”
A friend of King Charles explained that despite all that happened via Spare, the Netflix series, and the bombshell interviews, he wants Prince Harry and Prince William to be present for the most important day of his life.
Royal expert and biographer Sally Bedell Smith said that the King has been able to overlook the damaging things that Prince Harry said about Camilla, Queen Consort, and the institution and start working on a plan to heal the rift.
She revealed: “Despite the wounds, it’s his son, and I can’t imagine he wouldn’t want him to be there regardless of the hurtful things that have been said.”
Prince Harry and King Charles’s decision to heal the divide will come at a cost. Prince William is angrier than ever at his brother and has not spoken to him in the last six months.
Prince Harry permanently stained Prince William and Kate Middleton‘s reputations with Spare.
The heir to the throne is not willing to forgive his brother. A friend of the future King told the publication: “Things are strained. I don’t think the coronation and a big conversation can be conflated.”
Royal expert Dan Wootton said this about the cold war and the brief reunion between Prince Harry and Prince William at the coronation: “On his upcoming solo visit for the Coronation, Harry will be subjected to his older brother’s brutal, silent treatment. There will be no reconciliation talks, certainly not the public or private apology Harry and Meghan were laughably demanding up until just a few weeks ago.”
Prince Harry and his brother are not closer to peace.
