King Charles III was not the happiest man at his coronation ceremony. For some odd reason, there is a considerable possibility that Prince Harry was the royal with the biggest smile or grin (depending on whom you ask) on his face.
At one point during the celebration, King Charles became visibly irritated by things not going as planned.
And he appeared to blame Prince William and Kate Middleton and their three children — Prince George, nine, Princess Charlotte, seven, and Prince Louis, five, for not having their business in order.
The planned order of service issued by Buckingham Palace stated that the heir to the throne and his wife were supposed to arrive before King Charles and Queen Camilla.
The plan read: “Their Royal Highnesses, The Prince and Princess of Wales, Princess Charlotte of Wales, and Prince Louis of Wales arrive at the Great West Door and are conducted to their seats in the Lantern. All remain seated. Their Majesties, The King and The Queen, arrive at the West Gate. A fanfare is sounded. All stand.”
Upon discovering that the Waleses were running late and therefore delayed the event of the last 70 years, King Charles did not hold back.
According to a lip reader, who spoke to the Daily Mail, His Majesty turned to his wife, Queen Camilla, and said he was concerned.
The Monarch claimed: “I’m worried about time; I mean, it’s been longer this time and, well, erm, I mean, look! I know.”
Another lip reader claimed to the outlet: “We can never be on time. Yes, I’m…this is a negative. There’s always something.”
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal biographer Omid Scobie wrote a detailed article about the coronation for Harper’s Bazaar, where he revealed that Prince William and Kate Middleton‘s children caused them to arrive late.
He wrote: “In fact, apart from Prince William and Princess Kate joining the procession late (children were to blame, a source tells me).”
Some royal watchers blamed Prince Louis’s cheeky ways for the delay. The author made this assessment of the coronation: “Still, despite so much being planned and practiced in advance, nothing could hide the nerves that were evident on King Charles’s face as he entered the abbey. Though this was a moment he had been waiting for his entire adult life, the king looked deep in thought and even confused at times.”
He added: “But, whether it was collective nerves or the pouring rain outside, a sense of joy was tough to sense inside the abbey. Even amongst the family members, few smiles were shared (at one point Princess Anne’s daughter, Zara Tindall, looked like she was falling asleep).”
Prince Harry kept his smile most of the time.
