It is very rare for members of the Royal Family to talk about their aches and pain. However, Prince Harry has normalized the idea of a royal opening up about physical and even mental struggles.
Just days before King Charles III‘s coronation, the heir to the throne suffered an injury that left him unable to walk for days.
Prince William made the revelation to former soccer star Luther Blissett. The future King of England met with Blissett during an investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle last week.
The ex-England striker was awarded the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE). Talking to the media, the former athlete said he briefly spoke with Prince William and invited him to play soccer.
Kate Middleton‘s husband declined the invitation and offered an explanation as to why he could not take part in any physical activity for the foreseeable future.
Blissett said the heir struggled with mobility following some of his pre-coronation activities. The Prince of Wales said he injured himself during a recent soccer match and could not walk for a week.
Blissett told the BBC: “We had just a couple of little words. I did ask him if he would love to come and join us on the (Watford former) players club, and he said yes, he would love to.”
He went on to share with the media outlet: “He said he was playing (football) last week, and he said he couldn’t walk for a week afterward. He says he still plays 11-a-side.”
While Prince Harry is more passionate about playing polo, Prince William is a huge soccer/football fan. He and his three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis loudly support and cheer for Aston Villa.
Thanks to Prince Andrew‘s sex scandal, Prince William’s dream came true. Prince William took over Prince Andrew’s position as president of the Football Association.
Prince William and his oldest son, Prince George, are often seen in stadiums cheering the English team.
In a recent interview, Prince William confessed that he loves playing soccer and has “a lot of friends” through the sport.
He stated: “Some of the greatest friendships are born from playing games and being pushed together in slight adversity.”
Prince William went on to share: “The sheer size and scale and just the fun of everyone running around chasing each other, I loved it. I was a defender. I was stuck at the back and told to just tackle.”
The heir is trying to be more open.
