The mini-drama between King Charles III and Kate Middleton at the Chelsea Flower Show is taking a whole confusing life of its own.
This week, Kate Middleton made a surprise appearance at a flower show where she met with young children and had a small picnic with them.
Hours after Kate Middleton’s visit, King Charles and Queen Camilla arrived at the event. There was little media coverage of the King and Queen‘s appearance at the show.
It was first claimed by the Daily Mail that King Charles was furious over Middleton’s move to steal his thunder.
Later on, the Daily Mail slightly changed the narrative by claiming that Catherine, Princess of Wales, and Prince William had King Charles’s authorization to steal the spotlight because that is how the monarchy would survive.
However, on Friday, a close friend of His Majesty told The Daily Beast that the truth is that he was not amused by Middleton’s PR stunt and added: “Charles is unlikely to be amused. Gardens are very much his thing, and given that it was always his mother’s big pre-Trooping the Colour day out, I think he has a right to be annoyed.”
The source familiar with the tiny crisis explained that King Charles has become irritated with Prince William and Middleton not because they overshadow him but because they refuse to communicate with him.
The insider claimed that His Majesty’s office or Buckingham Palace did not receive communication from Middleton’s team about her surprise trip.
King Charles is angered by the lack of coordination because it looks like the royals are stepping on each other’s toes and creating a media circus, which is never a good look for the family, especially after the countless controversies involving Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
The Daily Beast noted: “The lack of communication between Charles and Kate’s people, another friend of the king and queen told The Daily Beast, is probably the most irritating thing about the events of this week for Charles.”
King Charles’s close associate added: “It just looks ridiculous if they both turn up separately to the same event, and Charles understands that. It gives the media the chance to stir things up. But after everything he has been through with Harry over the past few years, Charles has an enormous appreciation for William and Catherine and the work they do. No one thinks this is the beginning of a new war between their courts.”
The Waleses want to be seen as the new faces of the British monarchy.
