King Charles III and President Joe Biden have been dominating the headlines after this historic meeting at Windsor Castle on Monday.
His Majesty and the leader of the free world had a state visit that lasted less than 24 hours. King Charles was delighted to receive the president at his castle because it was the first visit between the two leaders.
Joe Biden, who had a lot on his plate, declined to attend King Charles’s coronation in May. The United States was represented by Dr. Jill Biden and her granddaughter, Finnegan Biden.
Upon Joe Biden’s arrival in the UK, King Charles indicated that he was eager to chat with the president. Biden, known to be a wild card, opted to drag on while chatting with the Welsh Guards, who were playing the Star Spangled Banner.
King Charles pulled a Prince William and told Joe Biden to “chop, chop, chop,” or hurry up. The two men hugged and shook hands, confirming they were thrilled to see each other.
While engaged in a deep conversation, President Biden placed his hand on King Charles’s back. That move prompted the media to scream breach of protocol.
King Charles was quick to make it clear that he is not Queen Elizabeth II, who adhered to the strict rule that no one should touch her or walk in front of her.
The King is more modern and warmer than the late Queen, according to royal aides who spoke to The Daily Beast.
King Charles actually welcomed the hug and touch from Biden. A source at Buckingham Palace told The Royalist that King Charles was more than comfortable with Biden’s gestures for the following reasons: “His Majesty the King is entirely comfortable with that kind of contact—and what a wonderful symbol of warmth and affection it was between both the individuals and their nations.”
Courtiers have confirmed that Biden, 80, and Charles, 74, had a lovely meeting over tea, and the so-called significant break with royal tradition was ignored.
They tackled many important topics, including climate change and other environmental-related matters. Royal staff members explained that King Charles respected the golden rule of not discussing politics. Nonetheless, Joe Biden was slammed for his short visit.
Nile Gardiner, a former senior aide to the late British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, bashed the president for undertaking “the most low-key U.S. visit to London in decades.”
Gardiner added: “You have to ask, what was the point of Biden coming over? It seems to be quite a dismissive trip in many respects. He is viewed by British conservatives as an absolute disaster.”
After he met with King Charles, Biden traveled to Lithuania to take part in a NATO summit.
