Meghan Markle has failed to hit high fashion notes at the Invictus Games. The former actress arrived late at the sporting events because she had to focus on Archie and Lilibet‘s first day of school.

Markle decided her seven-day stay in Germany would be low-key. Prince Harry, a true fashionista and trendsetter, surprised many by going for earth tones.

She often wore weight, luxury beige, and brown and closed the games in green. Some believe that Markle made a fashion faux pas, but one veteran royal expert is pushing the theory that it was all a calculated plan.

According to writer and commentator Daniela Elser, Markle made the calculated move to ax the “wardrobe is a distraction and costs too much money” narrative.

Elser nonetheless criticized Meghan Markle for removing herself from the spotlight and putting it on Prince Harry’s thinning hair.

The royal expert wrote for news.com.au: “The Duchess of Sussex, in taking her wardrobe off the table story-wise this week, would seem to be trying to ensure that the spotlight and attention remains on the Games and her thinning-haired other half, Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex. No limelight stealing here, no siree!”

Not only was the Duchess of Sussex, accused of hair shaming her husband, but she was also bashed for wearing boring attire to the games.

The author went on to say: “Thus carry the two, subtract one, and you get Meghan wearing the blandest clothing I have ever witnessed on Getty Images to the Invictus Games.”

Continuing with the criticism, the author claimed: “Consider this the Duchess of Sussex’s best attempt to fade into the background while Harry struggles to wipe the joyful smile off his face as he excitedly hugs his way around the Games.”

Elser picked apart every outfit worn by Markle and slammed the stylist who coordinated the attire. She concluded by: “What has instead played out in Dusseldörf this week is a whole new look for the 42-year-old, whose wardrobe has been so low-key as to qualify as officially plain: Jeans and flats in blacks and browns, a relentlessly neutral palette that makes one wonder if her stylist might have gone color-blind, and an absolute dearth of glamor.”

Despite Markle’s efforts to fade into the background, she was hit with a monster piece in the Daily Mail that claimed she wore almost $400,000 of clothes, pieces of jewelry, and shoes at the games.

The media outlet wrote in part: “Markle looked to high street retailers like Zara, Banana Republic, and J Crew for affordable fashionable pieces as well as mid-range designers like Ralph Lauren and Toteme. However, racking up the majority of Meghan’s bill was her jewelry, which included Princess Diana’s £17,800 Cartier watch and added her £50,000 Lorraine Schwartz pinky ring made with ‘diamonds gifted from the Middle East’ as well as a £2260 1972 tennis pinky ring from Shiffon and Co.”

Markle simply cannot win.
