There is a lot of ink being spilled because of a statement from Kensington Palace confirming that Kate Middleton is not going to Singapore with Prince William in the fall.
The royal couple was set to participate in the Earthshot Prize ceremony. According to statements from the Palace, Prince William will be traveling alone this time around because Middleton prefers to be in London and help her oldest son, Prince George, prepare for a series of entry tests so he can be accepted into the prestigious boarding school, Eton College.
However, there are loud whispers that there is more to the story. It is believed that Kate Middleton is being pushed to the backburner because her fashion takes away from Prince William’s important statement activities.
Everything seems to indicate that Prince William has reached a place in his life where he is making his mark in the world as the future King.
The heir to the throne wants to be seen as serious, talk about important issues that are not political or social, and possibly bring solutions to the table.
And Prince William is unable to achieve these world-changing goals when the focus is on who designed Kate Middleton’s dress and how much it cost. And are her jewelry and tiaras controversial and just historically expensive? In a nutshell, Middleton has now become a distraction instead of an asset.
Royal expert Robert Jobson had this to say about the Middleton’s distracting fashion choices: “It can be all about what the princess wears as far as the media is concerned, which means some of the big issues get ignored. When he is on his own, the coverage tends to be about the issues he is trying to highlight. This may or may not be the reason for Kate not going to Singapore – but it is part of it.”
While many saw the move as unceremonious, a few royal experts say that Prince William is doing the right thing by pushing his wife aside.
One royal author argued that Prince William should enjoy his big day in Singapore because hardworking and important male figures do not bring their wives to their jobs.
Royal historian Marlene Koenig said: “Both William and Catherine have been doing great recently. We have seen how they’ve changed royal engagements and how they’ve been reaching out to communities and supporting serious causes like early childhood, mental health, and education.”
She went on to explain that Prince William “didn’t need his wife in Singapore with him to support him on his big day.”
Koenig continued: “They are able to talk about serious matters, without making it political, and that contributes to their success. Who goes to work every day with his wife? And William doesn’t need to be with Catherine to make the day a success. It’s his big day, he’s been doing this for a very long time and his efforts have been very well received.”
The Prince of Wales is doing things his own way.
