Donald Trump is being told by Republican voters with deep pockets and fat checkbooks that they are not that into him.
However, as always, the former president has ignored the urgent message and is living in his own reality. This week, the Washington Post shared some numbers that should probably alarm Mr. Trump, who is determined to return to his old job at the White House.
Data shows that the Republican Party is no longer bankable — which implies that the face of the party, Donald Trump, is not as appealing to major donors as he once was.
The Republican National Committee confirmed that it had $9.1 million in cash on hand as of October 30 — a historically low figure.
According to The Post, this is the “lowest amount for the RNC in any Federal Election Commission report since February 2015.”
Around that same time in 2016, the conservative moment boasted of $20 million. And the amount was $61 million four years ago.
These numbers confirm that Trump’s glow is slowly peeling off, and he needs to react. Meanwhile, the Democrats are delighted to announce that they currently have $17.7 million in the bank.
The decline in donations for the GOP has sparked a furious debate as to why the mega-rich and average red-leaning Americans have stopped giving their hard-earned money.
Talking to the media outlet, one Republican took James Carville‘s route by blaming it on “the economy, stupid.”
Tennessee RNC member Oscar Brock said: “It’s a revenue problem. We’re going through the same efforts we always go through to raise money: the same donor meetings, retreats, digital advertising, and direct mail. But the return is much lower this year. If you know the answer, I’d love to know it. The staff has managed to tighten down on expenses to keep the party from going into the red.”
Another theory is that donors are playing the field at this stage of the race. They have many options in front of them, and they have decided to pick and choose who they want to support financially.
In clear, the money is not going to the Republican Party but to candidates running for president and state elections.
RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel shared this explanation: “I think there are more donors just fully committed to their candidate right now, saying I am all in, and once the nominee is set, I’ll be there. That’s what I hear more than anything. And they’re solidly in the camps of their candidate, which is normal. There’s nothing unusual about this because they know that once their candidate gets in that we will merge and that we’ll be working together to win the White House.”
However, some political experts and anonymous staff members of the RNC are saying that the “leading man” of their party is the problem.
Donors are quietly and privately breaking up with Donald Trump because he is a bottomless pit.
Wealthy and average-sized donors are tired of pouring their money into Trump’s multiple court cases, settlements, lawsuits, lawyers, legal counselors, etc.
The Post revealed: “Some donors aren’t giving to the RNC because they think that will help Trump, which they don’t want to do, these people said, while others have said they prefer to wait until 2024 to give. Some have grown frustrated with the party’s leadership, people close to major donors said.”
It will be interesting to see if this pattern will continue into 2024.
