Kate Middleton has royal fans praying for a miracle in the form of a dramatic public appearance at one of her favorite events.
Indeed, all eyes are on the Royal Box on Center Court for Princess Kate‘s exciting return to Wimbledon.
Prince William‘s wife, Kate Middleton, is not just a huge tennis fan, but also the “royal patron” of Wimbledon.
If she attends the men’s final this weekend, Catherine, Princess of Wales, will hand out the coveted trophies.
However, the possibility of her attendance is uncertain as Kate Middleton is currently battling cancer and undergoing chemotherapy.
While she could briefly attend the Trooping of Color ceremony, many pointed out that it took a toll on her body.
A friend of Princess Kate and Prince William’s told The Daily Beast that she will decide at the last minute if she can be present at the biggest sports event of the year:
The pal said: “It is no secret that she would dearly love to be there, but when you are having chemo, as she herself said, there are good days and bad days. A lot depends on the timing of the treatments. She made [it] to Trooping the Color, so if she can make Wimbledon, she will.”
However, a former royal employee revealed to The Sun that it is up to someone other than Middleton to decide whether she will attend the championship.
Former royal butler Paul Burrell revealed that the heir, Prince William, is the ultimate decision-maker in the household and will determine whether his wife can attend the event.
He stated: “William controls this household, and he will decide whether she’s well enough to do this because he’s the one who protects the family fiercely. There’s no way he’s going to subject Kate to intrusion that she can’t handle. He’s so fiercely protective. This stems from losing his mother when he was 15 years old.
He continued: “With William by her side, Kate’s safe because he will care for her and never let anyone harm her. She trusts William implicitly, and he has the final say.”
All England Club Chair Debbie Jevans told Telegraph Sport that Princess Kate has been given “as much flexibility as possible in determining whether she can fulfill her ceremonial duties as Club Patron on finals weekend, including leaving a decision until the morning of the women’s final on Saturday.”
If Middleton cannot attend, The Duchess of Gloucester will replace her.
