It was always claimed that Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie‘s shocking divorce and the ongoing nasty court battle that followed all started on a plane.
This week, a series of FBI documents shed light on what truly happened on the fateful flight in late 2016.
The incident between Pitt, Jolie, and at least two of their children took place onboard a private plane that was traveling from France to Los Angeles on September 14, 2016.
Six days later, Jolie filed for divorce and ended a decade-long romance. Soon after, the actress and humanitarian requested that the FBI investigate the matter.
The investigation closed by November, and no charges were pursued against Pitt. In April 2022, Jolie anonymously filed suit against the bureau, as Jane Doe requested documents related to the investigation concerning Pitt because she was unsatisfied that he was not charged with assault.
Not long after Jolie made the request, the redacted documents were leaked to the media.
According to the documents, Jolie revealed that her then-husband was drunk when he boarded the plane, and they got into several altercations.
Jolie alleged that Pitt “began yelling at her and then grabbed her by the head, shaking her, before he punched the ceiling of the plane approximately four times.”
Jolie told investigators that Pitt pushed her into the restroom. According to the documents via Page Six: “Two of their kids were outside, both crying, and one asked, “Are you OK, Mommy?”
Pitt then pushed Jolie as she tried to hug them, allegedly yelling, “No, she’s not OK. She’s ruining this family. She’s crazy.”
At this point, one of the kids — whose name was redacted — yelled, “It’s not her, it’s you, you pr–k!”
The FBI documents went on to say that Pitt ran toward the child who called him a pr*k, but Jolie attempted to hold him back, and she suffered multiple injuries to her back and elbow.
It has also been revealed that during the chaos, Pitt allegedly made a horrific remark about one of his children by saying, the child “looks like an f—ing Columbine kid.”
It is not known why Pitt allegedly compared one of his sons or daughters to Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, the mass murderers who killed 12 children and a teacher in 1999 at Columbine High School in Columbine, Colorado.
Responding to the accusation levied against him, a source close to Pitt told PEOPLE: “Both he and Jolie have had the documents in question for six years, and Jolie likely meant to revive an issue that was painful for everybody and was resolved six years ago. They investigated it. They prepared materials, reviewed it together, and decided not to charge him.”
The source added: “What are the motivations of a person to take up court time and public resources in filing an anonymous FOIA request for the material they have had for years? There’s only one: to inflict the most amount of pain on her ex. There is no benefit to this. It is harmful to the children and the entire family for this to be made public.”
The Pitt source concluded by saying that it is not a factual document but hearsay. The person shared: “This is not a factual document. This is what she claimed happened. It was investigated, and there were no charges brought. It’s standard for these types of things to not be released.”
A judge declared Pitt and Jolie legally single in 2019. They are parents to Maddox, 21, Pax, 18, Zahara, 17, Shiloh, 16, and 14-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox and still have an ongoing custody battle.
