The actress filed for divorce from Ben Affleck this week. Lopez dropped the papers at a Los Angeles court on her second anniversary without an attorney.
According to a source, who spoke to Page Six, Lopez picked that symbolic date to make a point and convey a message.
The outlet: “She also filed “pro se,” meaning that she represented herself and filed without a lawyer, a move that could further signify her taking back control.”
The publication added: “We also hear that Lopez’s shopping trip in West Hollywood, Calif., last weekend — when the “Jenny From the Block” singer wore a glamorous black dress — was meant to show she is taking back dignity.”
Lopez is taking her power and dignity back. She wants the world to know that her emotions are in check and is now focused on her children and herself.
To protect her emotional health and well-being after a complicated year and devastating summer, Lopez has decided not to put on a spectacle of fake smiles, awkward small talk, and uncomfortable poses for her new movie with Ben Affleck.
Indeed, Lopez and Affleck’s drama will move to the red carpet and the big screen next month. The former couple made a movie together. The incredible title of the project is Unstoppable.
Sources told Page Six that Lopez has decided not to participate in interviews and will not appear on the red carpet with her ex-husband.
The outlet stated: “Page Six hears the divorcing duo will avoid any red-carpet reunion at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival in two weeks when their project debuts.”
Lopez will fly to Canada to promote the movie and attend the festival for its September 6 premiere, while Affleck will be in another country.
Meanwhile, another source told PEOPLE that Lopez was sad and did her best to make the marriage work, but Affleck was anywhere but in that relationship.
The person they know stated: “She’s very disappointed and sad, but Ben hasn’t given her any signs that he wants to continue their marriage. He hasn’t shown any commitment and interest in making their marriage work. It’s gotten to the point that she just needs to look out for herself.”
It is not certain that she will be able to avoid the questions.
