Spencer Pratt is seeing the tides turn against him, and he is doing little to correct the situation.
The devastating California fires struck hundreds of thousands of homes, including many celebrity mansions, leaving a trail of destruction and heartbreak. Some were seriously damaged, and others were razed into the ground, causing a profound sense of loss and despair.
Many of the Hollywood stars impacted by the blaze, including Paris Hilton, Leighton Meester, Adam Brody, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Joshua Jackson, Anna Faris, Ricki Lake, Tyra Banks, Billy Crystal, and Diane Warren, released statements pouring their hearts and souls out about the horrible loss of meaningful keepsakes and precious memories that they had created in those homes throughout the years.
However, amidst their own personal tragedies, these stars consciously focused on the non-celebrity victims of the fires and the heroic firefighters battling the inferno.
Spencer Pratt and his wife, Heidi Montag, took a different approach. After losing their mansion, the pair discreetly asked for financial aid.
From the initial shock of losing their multi-million dollar family home in the Pacific Palisades to their later complaints about their financial situation, Spencer Pratt and his wife, Heidi Montag, are handling their loss in a unique way.
They spoke at length on social media about the loss of pricey possessions. Their pleas touched the hearts of their fans, who, in a display of remarkable generosity, poured in thousands of dollars to help them rebuild their lives. This outpouring of support is a testament to the deep connection between the reality stars and their supporters.
Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag have received $141,000 from a GoFundMe page to help them rebuild their lives.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Pratt thanked those who donated to his family but complained about not being that rich.
And lamenting about being a hustler, the interview led to an internet storm. The reality star explained that he received $20,000 via TikTok Live and added: “I made $4,000 on TikTok this week, but on TikTok Live, where people can just give to me direct, $20,000. So that’s phenomenal and life-changing. That’s the power of individual supporters, people just backing you and getting behind you. And that’s the most powerful when you don’t have to rely on ads or AI and algorithms when just actual human beings want to give. It’s unbelievable.”
The Hills star confessed that he is not wealthy and that he and his spouse are always hustling to maintain their Hollywood lifestyle.
He lamented: “I know people are like, you’re rich, you will be fine (Yah, I wish). Everything in our house was paid for by Heidi and me hustling any way we could.”
Spencer has also appealed to supporters’ good nature and digital pockets to stream his wife’s 2010 song “Superficial.”
Montag’s track is doing amazingly well on the charts, so she has published a video thanking those who streamed her songs.
She said: “Thank you to everyone who went on the iTunes charts. Thank you for the overwhelming love and support for my music, ral, lying behind us at a devastating time and making it such a blessing. So, thank you for helping support us.”
The mother of two added: “For helping build us back up, helping to encourage us, giving us hope, faith, and excitement in such a dark, dark time. So thank you so much, number 1. I can’t believe it, and it’s the 15th anniversary of Superficial, so the timing is just crazy. It’s so crazy.”
Spencer Pratt’s video, in which he complained about his net worth, sparked a wave of criticism on social media, with many expressing disapproval of his comments.
The TikToker was quickly and brutally humbled by everyday Americans who work 9 to 5, raise their kids, and have side hustles.
One person had this to say: “Milking a disaster… classy move.” Another angry netizen stated: “All for views and clout… and how yall need help when yall rich and live in that area? Take from the people feeling bad because they have lost everything, but y’all didn’t give af when they were hurting in tough times. You shouldn’t have been there if you are that broke.”
A last commenter shared: “Exploit tragedy for your personal gain the American way.”
However, one backer of the couple is defending them by writing: “They’re not exploiting; they lost literally everything! Wow.. Those who have no compassion for them during this time, I hope y’all have the day YOU DESERVE.”
The couple has been in the celebrity world for over two decades.
