Donald Trump‘s announcement of his first state visit to the UK caught the country’s government off guard, sparking a fury of disturbing and embarrassing leaks.
Trump’s decision to announce his visit without prior consultation with British officials sparked drama.
While aboard Air Force One, the former reality star happily told reporters he was considering going to Saudi Arabia because he assumed he could land another trillion-dollar deal.
However, for some unknown reason, he suddenly changed his plans and decided that the UK would be his first destination.
The newly returned United States president explained to the journalists: “Could be Saudi Arabia. Could be the UK. Traditionally, it’s been the UK. Last time, I went to Saudi Arabia because they agreed to buy four $ 50 billion worth of United States merchandise, including a lot of military equipment, farm equipment, and other equipment. And if that offer were right, I’d do that again.”
Donald Trump was asked about his thoughts on the UK’s Prime Minister Keir Starmer and his government.
The billionaire real estate mogul said: “I’ve met him already three times. He’s come over to see me twice. I have a call. He and I have a call over the next 24 hours. Now I get along with him, and I like him a lot. He’s liberal, which is a little bit different for me, but I think he’s a very good person. I think he’s done a very good job thus far. He’s doing the job… but he’s represented his country in terms of philosophy. I may not agree with his philosophy, but I have a very good relationship with him. I’ve seen him twice at dinner with him in Trump Tower, as you probably know.”
After Trump’s big announcements, top British government officials, who worked with former prime ministers Theresa May and Boris Johnson, decided to humble him in an exposé that appeared in Politico.
Staff members leaked a series of humiliating conversations that Trump had with two British prime ministers. The details painted the conversations between the American leader and British politicians as immature, belittling, quite comical, and nonsensical.
Employees said Trump’s word salads were so terrible that it forced them to laugh and cry at the same time. It is unknown if Trump will change his travel plans again after the embarrassing report.
A former Downing Street official told the media outlet: “The calls were extraordinary … brilliant. Everyone was in there with tears [of] laughter because they were hilarious.”
Another insider stated: “The agenda would quite quickly fall by the wayside.” A third added: “They were never what you wanted them to be about, broadly. If you were calling about trade or Israel or something, it would always go off beam.”
Trump even asked Boris Johnson for details about Queen Elizabeth II‘s health. One of May’s former advisors said Trump steamrolled her during exchanges and added: “Trump absolutely bulldozed her in phone calls. She had absolutely no idea how to deal with somebody like Trump. It was a vicar’s daughter we were sending off to deal with a very, very hard-nosed, ruthless businessman who was there to get the best deal for Americans … there was more than a whiff of misogyny.”
Trump slammed May when she was no longer in office and attacked other leaders, including London Mayor Sadiq Khan.
A former Downing Street official revealed that Johnson believed that Trump was an idiot and vulgar and pretended to like him, flattering his ego to get his way.
The official claimed: “Johnson would WhatsApp directly with members of Trump’s team and help persuade the president to pull out of an interview with TV presenter Piers Morgan. It was interesting, because Boris never liked Trump. I think he thought he was vulgar and a bit of an idiot. But he certainly played him incredibly well.”
Trump now knows some of the truth.
