After allegations of sexual misconduct with children were brought up against billionaire Jeffrey Epstein and the story started to spread, it has impacted his life in multiple ways.
However, it looks like some people were well aware of the man’s tendencies even before the story became such a public affair, as indicated by recent reports.
According to stories by locals living around Epstein’s private Caribbean resort, it had the nickname “Pedophile Island” in the local community for quite some time before the events were brought to the public’s attention.
Kevin Goodrich, a boat operator, had this to say about the businessman’s island, Little St. James Island, in the Southeast of St. Thomas: “Everybody called it ‘Pedophile Island. It’s our dark corner. When he was there, it was keep to yourself and do your thing.”
A local, Spencer Consolvo, added: “He wasn’t well-received. People think he’s too rich to be policed properly.”
A commenter on social media added: “I hope he and his associated friends involved get what they deserve. The sexual abuse must stop.”
Many people working on the island had to sign various forms and agreements promising that they would not reveal anything that they had seen during their work there.
In fact, many of Epstein’s employees in the area were encouraged to simply keep their heads down and pretend that they have not seen anything out of the ordinary.
Reports are still coming out, some allegedly from people who had worked on the island, and the whole story is being painted in a more and more disturbing light as it progresses.
At the moment, things are looking quite bad for Epstein, and it does not appear like he has any chance of regaining his reputation or making it out of this mess unscathed.
In the meantime, many have started to come forward with their own stories about the alleged abuser, although it is hard to verify the legitimacy of everything that is being said about him at this point.
Epstein himself, as can be expected, has been keeping a low profile through this all.
