After a video went viral showing Tom Brady, of NFL fame, jumping off a cliff into the water with Vivian Lake Brady, who is his 6-year-old daughter, responses were mixed.
On the one hand, many were impressed with the athlete’s performance and saw what he did as a fun bonding moment between the father/daughter duo.
On the other, there was a lot of criticism about Brady’s irresponsible attitude in the scene where he could have hurt his child. And it looks like there is no consensus among Internet commenters so far.
The video, which was posted by the New England Patriots quarterback, was reportedly taken in Costa Rica where he was vacationing with his family.
It shows Brady asking his daughter if she was ready, after which he counted to three and jumped off the cliff while holding hands with her and therefore dragging her off.
He then joked that his daughter probably does not have a good chance of being an Olympic champion in synchronized diving — but added that he still always gave her a 10.
Brady penned the following caption: “If Vivi is going to be an Olympic champion one day, it probably won’t be in synchronized diving. Daddy always gives her a ten though! ???”
He added: “I didn’t want to be the first Brady to fall off a cliff!??”
Former Wrestler and actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson had this to say: “You KNOW I have complete faith in you as a man, friend, player, and father – but this just gave me anxiety. Geeezus. ?????”
One critic slammed Brady: “Is this any different from the girl pushing her friend off the bridge a year ago?”
Another person had this remark: “Any excuse to say someone is a bad person or parent. Someone literal said, “omg, you just tried to kill your daughter!” Wtf lol there are much faster ways to do it. She is fine. Everyone needs to worry about their own lives.”
Golden State Warrior star Stephen Curry laughed: “???????.”
An Instagrammer called out Curry: “If either of the Currys did that, they’d be charged with child endangerment. It’s insane that he’s joking about this.”
It does not look like Brady himself is too affected by the comments that are being posted online, as he is standing by his decision.
Brady does not think the act was carried out in the irresponsible way that some people are suggesting, because he has moved on to share a message for his wife and supermodel Gisele Bündchen‘s 35th birthday.
However, the video has become a hot topic in various social media circles and a PR nightmare, so it is safe to say that similar posts from Brady in the future will not be as wild and controversial.
