Gabourey Sidibe‘s fans were recently treated to a brand new photo of her in black heels in a matching dress, smiling for the camera.
The Empire star has been making progress towards improving her health as she has visibly slimmed down since the last time she posted a photo online.
The talented actress and filmmaker had laparoscopic bariatric surgery in 2016 to shed the pounds.
And while she has admitted that she still has some work ahead of her, it is obvious that she has been putting a lot of effort into this as well after she and her brother both were diagnosed with diabetes.
Hopefully, things will work out for her in this regard in the long run.
Reports indicate that her initial idea to hire a personal trainer to help her did not last very long, and she was back to trying on her own not too long from that.
She was reportedly also feeling stuck with the way she looked because no matter how much effort she tried putting into losing weight, it was not working out that well for her initially.
However, things have taken a turn for the better eventually, and she is now back on the right track.
In a recent interview, Sidibe explained why she does not like getting compliments on her new body: “What had been happening is, since I’ve been losing weight over the past year, people have been saying, ‘Congratulations on your weight loss! It just annoys me, because I’m just like, don’t congratulate me on that. If you’re going to congratulate me on my weight loss, also congratulate me every time I pee. Congratulate me every time I’m burping. My body actually has nothing to do with you. I don’t really need your support for it. It seems ill-placed.”
It is hard to gauge her progress from those pics exactly, and she will keep some of the comments about the situation to herself, but she has made it pretty clear that she is dedicated to getting better and is going to do everything in her power to do it.
And so far, nothing seems to be getting in her way either, even with the whole situation affecting the world right now.
The 37-year-old acting sensation can be seen opposite Janelle Monáe and Kiersey Clemons in the upcoming hooro film Antebellum that will premiere on August 21.
