Fans of rapper and singer Tory Lanez are saying that he should have never released his most recent album, where he denied shooting Megan Thee Stallion.
On Thursday, Los Angeles County prosecutors announced that Lanez has been charged with shooting Megan Thee Stallion.
Lanez, whose legal name is Daystar Peterson, has been slapped with one count of assault with a semiautomatic firearm and one count of carrying a loaded, concealed firearm in a vehicle.
Megan Thee Stallion, whose real name is Megan Jovon Ruth Pete, is mentioned in the criminal complaint.
Videos showed the Texan rapper was shot on both feet in July while riding in an SUV in the Hollywood Hills with Lanez and another a friend. If convicted, the crooner could be facing a maximum sentence of 23 years behind bars.
Lanez has been under massive backlash after rumors started circulating that the Canadian music star was trying to profit from his altercation with Megan Thee Stallion while advertising his latest project, Daystar.
Followers of the lyricist were recently surprised when Lanez shared a message on Twitter stating, “To my fans … I’m sorry for my silence …. but respectfully .. I got time today ….. 9 PM PST.”
Even though many thought that the “Say It” performer would open up about what really happened between him and Megan Thee Stallion, who recently accused him of shooting her in the foot, Lanez shocked everyone when he just shared a picture of his new album captioned with “There is a time to stay silent. And a time to speak ….. I said all I could say on this … ALL PLATFORMS … in five minutes”.
As a result, some criticized the rapper for taking advantage of the situation and “capitalizing” on it.
However, a spokesman for the rapper defended him by explaining that he decided to release the album on September 25 because the date was not only the anniversary of the death of his mother but also her birthday, and a part of the profits would be “donated to organizations supporting women, children, and victims of violence as well as the Breonna Taylor Foundation.”
In his new album, Lanez addressed Megan Thee Stallion’s story on multiple occasions, and in one of the songs, he sings, “How the f— you get shot in your foot, don’t hit no bones or tendons?”
Lanez has lost a lot of opportunities after the incident and several female artists have removed his appearances on their projects.
