Donald Trump‘s pending court case just got a little murkier with Rudy Giuliani‘s latest decision. Giuliani, who served as former President Donald Trump’s personal lawyer, went to bat for his boss.

The politician’s license to practice law was suspended in New York State in 2021 and in the District of Columbia for violating lobbying laws, making false statements about rigged voting machines and polling place fraud, and pushing debunked theories that the 2020 presidential election was stolen from Trump.

Giuliani was the highest-profile politician to speak at the rally before the January 6 United States Capitol attack, pushing the fake claim that widespread voter fraud led to Trump losing to Joe Biden.

Rudy Giuliani’s relentless promotion of conspiracy theories led to him being sued by two Georgia election workers — Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss.

The workers filed a defamation lawsuit against Giuliani after he falsely accused them “of rigging the 2020 election and counting extra votes.”

For months, the former president’s attorney said in interviews and rallies that Moss and Freeman were seen on security footage mishandling thousands of ballots to sabotage Georgia’s election result.

Moss and Freeman accused Rudy Giuliani of starting a smear campaign against them. They also stated that former President Donald Trump accused them of election fraud.

Moss and Freeman revealed that Giuliani’s attacks on their character and Trump’s accusations led to them facing harassment and death threats.

According to court documents filed on Tuesday, Rudy Giuliani acknowledged that he made false statements about the employees.

According to the court documents, via Politico, Giuliani said: “He does not contest that his statements, which fueled a torrent of public attacks on the workers — Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss — were false and carry meaning that is defamatory.”

Giuliani also admitted that his statements meet the “factual elements of liability” for the workers’ claims that “his attacks amounted to intentional infliction of emotional distress.”

Despite Rudy Giuliani’s concession, he plans to renew his efforts to fight the lawsuit. Ted Goodman, Giuliani’s political adviser, said: “Giuliani did not acknowledge that the statements were false, but did not contest it in order to move on to the portion of the case that will permit a motion to dismiss. This is a legal issue, not a factual issue. Those out to smear the mayor are ignoring the fact that this stipulation is designed to get to the legal issues of the case.”

Michael J. Gottlieb, an attorney representing Freeman and Moss, declared it a win for his clients.

The attorney said in a statement: “Giuliani’s stipulation concedes what we have always known to be true: Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss honorably performed their civic duties in the 2020 presidential election in full compliance with the law, and the allegations of election fraud he and former President Trump made against them have been false since day one.”

Giuliani’s concession is significant because “special counsel Jack Smith appears poised to charge Trump and potentially others for their two efforts” to overturn the 2020 election.
