Prince Harry is discovering that there are dire consequences to his actions.
When Meghan Markle and Prince Harry decided to step down from their positions as senior royals, he gave up many things, including a title that was very dear to his heart.
The Duke of Sussex signed a contract that led to financial freedom and gave him the liberty to say and do whatever he chooses, but there is a price.
Harry was told that he would no longer be the Captain-General of the Royal Marines. At the time, Harry confessed that the news made him feel sad and powerless.
He stated: “I am so proud to have served as the Royal Marines Captain and am devastated that I am having to step down. I feel I’m letting people down, but I had no choice.”
According to the bombshell biography, Finding Freedom, Meghan felt hurt that the title was ripped from Harry.
The authors revealed: “That’s been a tough pill to swallow, and the one that has been most painful to Meghan witness him go through. It’s the one that made Harry emotional. She called the demotion so unnecessary. And it’s not just taking something away from him, and it’s also that entire military veteran community. You can see how much he means to them, too. So why? The powers are, unfortunately, greater than me.”
However, there was a glimmer of hope; the Palace had initially planned to review its decision in 12 months; therefore, Harry had a chance of having his title reinstated.
However, it has now been revealed that the Palace will permanently remove the title for Harry, and it will be given to his brother, Prince William.
A royal insider explained why the decision was taken: “The Corps is, in effect, without a Captain General, and we really must get on and fill this role. The decision has been made to invite Prince William to take over this important duty, largely on the basis that the Duke of Sussex has given no reason to believe that he will alter current arrangements. Quite the opposite, in fact.”
Many royal experts say that the Palace dealt this new blow to Harry because of his decision to cause trouble by meddling in the presidential election.
Reporter Richard Palmer explained: “The Sussexes’ intervention in the US presidential election, no matter how carefully worded, was deemed by palace officials to have crossed a line. It’s likely to have effects.”
Prince William will replace his younger brother as the new head of the Royal Marines in March 2021 — which is the one-year anniversary of the Sussexes’ decision to leave the royal family behind.
