Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, might have landed a prestigious new gig — but like everything the Sussexes do, they are followed by controversies.
This week, it was revealed that Meghan Markle and the British prince had been invited to attend the 2022 Academy Awards ceremony.
The Oscars will take place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, on March 27. Prince Harry and his spouse have been asked to be presenters at the lavish ceremony.
Reports claimed that the husband and wife would be giving out the biggest award of the night — the Best Picture Award — which implies that all eyes would be on the duo because they would be the last presenters on stage for the evening.
Markle and her husband are more than capable of making a stellar appearance at the 94th Academy Awards ceremony — they have proven that they are masterful speech givers at the NAACP Image Awards and recent COVID-19 vaccine-related concert.
However, if the power couple decides to make an appearance, they will not be judged on their speaking skills.
Their presence on the stage will remind the world that they recently turned their backs on an aging Queen.
According to sources close to the British family, Prince Harry and his wife should think twice before showing up at the Oscars in a fancy gown and suit because there are many people still fuming over the fact that they have declined to attend Prince Philip‘s Thanksgiving service alongside Queen Elizabeth II.
Last week, Prince Harry issued an official statement confirming that he will skip the event that will be held at the end of this month.
The announcement was seen as a major snub to Queen Elizabeth, and his involvement in the upcoming Oscars ceremony would leave many fuming.
A royal source told The Sun the following about Prince Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex‘s appearance: “Obviously, they’d be a huge coup this year and could use their appearance to make an impassioned speech of their choosing, most likely Ukraine. Show producers Will Packer and Shayla Cowan have lined up some amazing A-list names to take to the stage, and Harry and Meghan would be the icing on the cake.”
However, the source went on to say that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle might hesitate or will most likely turn down the opportunity because they know it will be a bad look.
The person familiar with the situation shared: “It would be seen as a final kick in the teeth for the royal family if he did — he’s too nervous to fly to London without police protection but happy to stand up in front of a huge live audience at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. Not great optics.”
The prince and his wife would rub elbows with a long list of high-profile celebrities at the soirée.
It is believed that Beyoncé and Billie Eilish will be performing at the awards show.
