According to royal experts, Kate Middleton is not overwhelmed by the drama surrounding the Sussexes and has “put her best foot forward” and tried to bring peace between her husband, Prince William, and his brother, Prince Harry.
The Duchess of Cambridge decided to “rise above” the infamous interview with Oprah Winfrey earlier this year, which included Meghan Markle claiming that her sister-in-law had made her cry during a bridesmaids’ dress fitting.
After initial reports in 2018, which claimed that Meghan had made Kate cry, the Duchess of Sussex made a point of saying that “the reverse happened” and she had been the one left weeping instead.
However, despite the rift, Kate Middleton has been praised by royal experts, who say she was not “overawed by all that’s going on” and tried to act as a “peacemaker” between Prince William and Prince Harry at their grandfather, Prince Philip’s funeral in April.
Camilla Tominey, a royal expert, said that the duchess “rose decidedly” above everything and was seen in pictures at the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral at St. George’s Chapel chatting with Prince Harry after the ceremony.
Tominey claims Kate set aside any “personal resentment” towards Meghan Markle and Prince Harry and played a role in getting the brothers to speak with each other as they left the grounds of Windsor Castle together.
She said: “Despite the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s Oprah Winfrey interview, when Kate was accused of making Meghan cry during a bridesmaid’s s dress fitting and failing to support her, Kate rose decidedly above it all. Setting aside any personal resentment she may still feel about Harry and Meghan’s televised two-hour tell-all, Kate put her best foot forward in trying to carve a path to reconciliation between the brothers.”
She added: “Few would have blamed her for giving Harry the cold shoulder, yet she clearly resolved that the situation needed to be appeased rather than aggravated.”
Christopher Wilson, a royal biographer, also said that Kate Middleton seemed to have realized the situation in the royal family needed “appeasing” rather than “aggravating” and did not give Harry the “cold shoulder” like several other members of the royal family had appeared to do.
He also believes that the conversations between the trio would not have been “staged” but seemed more like a “deft move” to encourage the brothers to talk to each other.
He said: “I thought it was entirely spontaneous and clever in making the two brothers talk to each other. It was a deft move that shows the Duchess is not overawed by all that’s going on.”
Kate Middleton’s uncle has also weighed in on the drama by saying that she is a “brilliant arbiter and peacemaker” who is doing all she can to salvage the princes’ relationship before it is too late.
Speaking to Closer, Gary Goldsmith confessed: “If Harry doesn’t get a grip and stop this self-indulgent episode, there will soon be no common ground or relationship to rebuild. But if anyone can bring peace to the royals, Kate can. Kate is a brilliant arbiter and peacemaker. Every bone in her body is about making friends and doing the best she can… she’s trying to mediate.”
Observers say that they are not surprised by what Kate is doing to fix the problem between the two siblings.
