Iggy Azalea has decided to ride the waves of drama to success. Iggy Azalea debuted a new look Sunday night as she was spotted heading to enjoy a night out to celebrate.
The 31-year-old diva flaunted radiant red hair and wore a black bodysuit and sheer pants. The rapper was heading to a fancy dinner for the launch of her new perfume, Parfum de Azalea.
For the Fourth of July weekend, the famous femcee from Australia debuted the music video for the song titled “I Am The Stripclub,” and it rapidly viral for all the wrong reasons.
The sexy visual features the rap sensation riding a massive truck, wearing a sheer striped bodysuit and a sleek black wig, and is whining with an army of male dancers in fishnet stockings and leotards.
While most fans were delighted by the infectious beat and catchy lyrics, others were left baffled by Iggy Azalea’s new skin color.
Iggy Azalea, known for her killer curves, is also famous for her light blonde hair and fair skin tone.
She was accused of blackfishing, (altering her appearance to look more black). Thousands of critics took to social media to slam Iggy Azalea for trying to appear darker than she is to sell records.
The “Fancy” rapper was bashed by this confused social media user who penned this message: “Looking like the light skin black woman, she’s aspiring to be smh. I was like, who’s this Black woman for real.”
Another commenter had the following to say: “She wants to be black soo bad it’s crazy?”
A more nuanced voice made this remark: “Whooooo??!!!hmmm I think it’s more than that hair? She’s giving Kardashian skin tan effects.. maybe it was dark before..iono like this ..but she is a beautiful woman.”
The mother of one took to Twitter to respond to the controversy. She claimed that she is not trying to be a woman of color and added: “I can’t care about something that ridiculous and baseless. I’m wearing a shade 6 in Armani foundation, and it’s the same shade I’ve worn for the last three years.”
She continued by saying: “It’s the same in every music video since sally Walker. Suddenly I wear a black wig in a club scene & its an issue.”
About 24 hours after the music was shared online, Iggy Azalea returned with a series of tweets to brag about the success and views that she has amassed thanks to her fans and foes.
She wrote: “To everyone showing me love: Thank you for dedicating your day to me and helping me promote, I love you!”
She added: ‘To everyone showing me hate: Thank you for dedicating your day to me and helping me promote, I love you!”
It seems that the “Sip It” artist is winning despite the noise.
