It is a daring move from Meghan Markle that Queen Elizabeth II knew was coming, yet she is said to be embarrassed by it.
Meghan Markle is famous for many reasons, including her activism and political drive. As a young child, she landed in the news for calling out a brand for being sexist and wrote a letter to Hillary Clinton.
Recently, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, caused a stir for penning a lengthy letter to the top Democrats in Washington.
The Suits star decided to reach out to Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer to ask them to include paid family leave policy in the ambitious bill that Democrats hope to get to President Joe Biden‘s desk before the end of the year.
The Duchess of Sussex, who recently gave birth to a baby girl, Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, cited her situation as a new mother and her concerns as an “engaged citizen” to make the passionate plea to the U.S. House Speaker and Senate Majority Leader.
Meghan Markle left many frustrated because they fear that the letter is another step towards her launching her political career.
The philanthropist has meddled in politics in the past year by advocating for social justice and urging Americans to vote.
Both Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have met with top Democrats in New York and California.
Meghan Markle also took the opportunity to speak about her past social status by mentioning the fact that she often used to get the $5 salad bar at Sizzler. That was another reason for her to be hit with heavy criticism by naysayers.
Her critics say she is claiming she was poor when evidence points to her having a comfortable double income family and attending the best private schools.
Meghan Markle rattled the British media with her letter because she used her station as a member of the British royal family.
Royal author Robert Jobson spoke to The Mirror and explained that Queen Elizabeth feared these political moves from the American activist and added: “This is what the Queen feared because now she’s free to say whatever she likes. She’ll now start talking about her political views and ambitions. And she might stir them up, which then becomes embarrassing.”
Jobson went on to say that he does not believe that Meghan Markle will face any backlash from the royals.
He said: “She’s sailing close to the wind, but will they say anything [the royals], no they won’t. The fact is, they knew this was what she was going to be doing. She was always a political girl. Since the age of seven, she was writing letters to Hilary Clinton.”
The expert concluded by saying that as a US citizen, the duchess is entitled to lobby her government, demand changes, and “do what she’s doing,” but that is not the case for Prince Harry, who is barred from voicing his political opinion.
He stated: “If it were Prince Harry doing it, I would say that’s a slightly different thing because he’s a Prince of the Realm. And he is a British citizen and he’s kind of bound up by everything.”
Meghan Markle began her letter with, “The Office of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex.”
She went on to say: “I’m not an elected official, and I’m not a politician. I’m writing to you at this deeply important time – as a mom – to advocate for paid leave.”
She continued: “I grew up on the $4.99 salad bar at Sizzler,’ she said. ‘I knew how hard my parents worked to afford this because even at five bucks, eating out was something special, and I felt lucky. I started working (at the local frozen yoghurt shop) at the age of 13. I waited tables, babysat, and piecemealed jobs together to cover odds and ends.”
Meghan Markle also added: “I worked all my life and saved when and where I could—but even that was a luxury – because usually it was about making ends meet and having enough to pay my rent and put gas in my car. I expect many of your constituents have their own version of that story. Many of our economic systems are past their expiration date, and as you well know, too many Americans are forced to shortchange themselves when it comes to what matters to them.”
Royals are not the only ones shocked by Meghan Markle’s decision to interfere in U.S. politics; Republicans have told her to stay in her lane and asked that she be stripped of her royal title.
