When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down from their royal duties in 2020, they revealed that they were hoping that Queen Elizabeth II would accept their offer to be part-time royals.
The pair wanted to be working members of the British Monarchy for six months and be free to pursue business endeavors for the remaining six.
The late Queen rejected the plan because she believed until her last breath that a royal should dedicate their entire life to serving the British people.
Many royal observers assumed that the newly proclaimed King Charles III would reconsider Prince Harry and Markle’s proposition for a long list of reasons.
Some believed that while King Charles is eyeing a slimmed-down Monarchy, he would find Prince Harry and Markle as assets because they are popular with millennials, and they can connect with black and people of color.
Kate Middleton and Prince William recently took part in a disastrous Caribbean tour where they were forced to address slavery and racism for the first time.
By the end of the tour, many countries confirmed their decision to cut ties with the British Monarchy and the Queen.
Despite what Prince Harry and Markle might be able to bring to the table, King Charles has more or less indicated that he is proud of what they are doing overseas, and it will remain that way for the foreseeable future.
During his speech, King Charles said: “I want also to express my love for Harry and Meghan as they continue to build their lives overseas.”
Some royal experts say that it was a way for King Charles to signal that he had not yet healed from the bombshell revelations made by his son and daughter-in-law.
King Charles might also be worried about Prince Harry’s upcoming book that is still on schedule to be released later this year.
Meanwhile, Prince Harry has decided to restore a semblance of harmony with his family. He joined his brother, Prince William, and sister-in-law Kate Middleton for a walkabout to greet mourners.
He penned this emotional tribute to Her Majesty and showed support to King Charles.
He wrote in part: “I cherish these times shared with you and the many other special moments in between. You are already sorely missed, not just by us but by the world over. And as it comes to first meetings, we now honor my father in his new role as King Charles III.”
He added: “Thank you for your commitment to service. Thank you for your sound advice. Thank you for your infectious smile. We, too, smile knowing that you and grandpa are reunited now, and both together in peace.”
The renegade royals might have to convince the new King of their good intentions.
