Thanks to a newly published book, many details about the failed romance between Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman have been revealed.
The author also gave a jaw-dropping insight into the entanglement between Cruise and the Church of Scientology.
In the freshly published book entitled A Billion Years: My Escape From a Life in the Highest Ranks of Scientology, Mike Rinder gave famous whistleblower Leah Remini a run for her money.
Rinder became entwined with Scientology as a child and left in 2007, at the age of 52.
The author and former Scientologist revealed in the book that in 1990, Tom Cruise filmed the movie Days of Thunder with actress Nicole Kidman and fell in love with her.
However, there was a significant problem — Cruise was a married man. The legendary star was married to his first wife, Mimi Rogers.
According to Rinder, the controversial Church of Scientology decided to move heaven and earth to make Cruise’s dream of being with Kidman a reality.
The Church of Scientology leader David Miscavige devised a plan to eliminate Mimi Rogers, the actress who had introduced Tom Cruise to Scientology years prior.
Miscavige and lieutenant Greg Wilhere collaborated to push Rogers to the divorce door.
He wrote in an excerpt that was released via Page Six: “David Miscavige had been invited to Daytona to watch the filming. He and his trusted lieutenant Greg Wilhere, now assigned as Cruise’s personal auditor, hung out with Cruise at the Speedway, went skydiving with him, and most importantly, helped facilitate Cruise’s desire to make Nicole his new wife. Miscavige no doubt saw this as an opportunity to demonstrate his ability to make Tom’s wishes come true.”
He went on to reveal what role Wilhere played in the drama by saying: “Wilhere was assigned to get Mimi to agree to a divorce so Tom could marry Nicole. It was highly unusual and would never have happened with a normal Scientologist.”
The plan worked, Tom Cruise and Mimi Rogers officially divorced in February 1990, and he wed Nicole Kidman in December that same year.
Rinder noted in the book: “It was indicative of how far Miscavige was willing to go to ally Cruise.”
A spokesperson for the Church of Scientology slammed the revelations by saying this in a statement: “Utterly ludicrous. Mike Rinder is an inveterate liar who seeks to profit from his dishonesty. He supports himself by orchestrating the harassment of his former Church and its leader through false police reports, incendiary propaganda, and fraudulent media stories.”
Kidman and Cruise divorced over his ties to Scientology.
