One of King Charles III‘s most significant tests is to unite the royal family — not only for his sake but because it would benefit the monarchy and the British people.
In his speeches and via royal sources, it has been confirmed that the newly proclaimed King has been making great efforts to have a truce with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
During Queen Elizabeth II‘s funeral and mourning period, King Charles and the rest of the royal family extended olive branches to Prince Harry and Markle, hoping to calm down nerves and finally start the healing process.
While there have been hiccups (the titles for Archie and Lilibet Diana and the military uniform snafu), sources close to the King have revealed that he placed reconciling with his son and daughter-in-law high on his agenda.
Katie Nicholl, the author of the new book The New Royals, told Palace Confidential that King Charles has yet to see “signs of a long-term reconciliation,” but he is determined to follow Queen Elizabeth‘s roadmap and get the job done.
Nicholl said: “The Queen had a remarkable ability to compartmentalize. I think that was so key to the success of her reign. And I think Charles will probably have to do the same. I mean, as you say, there are many familial issues here. The rift at the heart of the family of Windsor is no secret. We see no signs of a long-term, meaningful reconciliation.”
She went on to reveal why it is important for King Charles to accomplish this mission of making the royal family whole again: “But I have been told that it is very much on the King’s agenda. He knows that a Royal Family has to be a united Royal Family. That is important for him on a personal level, but it is important for him as the King, and I think he is going to think he can. I think we saw evidence of that in those olive branches that were extended to Harry and Meghan.”
However, a source close to Prince Harry and Markle spoke to The Daily Mail and The Sun on Friday, explaining that King Charles will not get his reconciliation this year.
Markle and Prince Harry have cooked up a plan to resolve all issues with King Charles and the rest of the royals in 2023 — after the tell-all book and the Netflix docuseries have been released.
The media outlet revealed: “Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are planning a year-long thaw in relations with the rest of the Royal Family – but not until Harry’s contentious memoir is out and the couple’s hotly-awaited Netflix series has premiered.”
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex put King Charles in a tough situation where he might get what he wants, but he will have to wait an extra year for it.
The King also has to accept all the revelations that will be dropped in the memoir and series and later swallow his pride and embrace the renegade royals.
