Prince Harry has shown signs of the elusive detente with King Charles III that many have been discussing.
While the relationship between Prince Harry and his father is complicated, he appears to be taking measures not to offend him further.
Case in point, Prince Harry made a humble appearance in Hawaii recently. The Duke of Sussex, without his wife, Meghan Markle, visited Pearl Harbor in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Prince Harry took the trip to mark Remembrance Day in England and Veterans Day in the United States. He honored those who perished in December 1941.
Photos showed a very respectful Prince Harry in a black suit walking with a tour guide who appeared to be explaining to him the significance of the USS Arizona Memorial.
Prince Harry seemed to pay close attention as the guide refreshed his memory on how Japanese soldiers and kamikaze bombed the battleship during World War II, leaving more than 1000 dead.
Dan Conover, who was also touring the USS Arizona with his family on Friday, tells PEOPLE: “He kind of approached us. I moved out of his way because he’s royalty. I figured I’d let him do his thing. He basically gave me a greeting. He was very respectful and courteous, and nice. I moved out of his way, and he kind of patted me on the back and said, ‘You’re all good, mate.’ It was a simple interaction, but he was very nice, courteous, and respectful.”
Prince Harry and Markle penned a message on Remembrance Day that read: “On this Veterans Day and Remembrance Day, we honor service members across the world. These brave men and women, as well as their families, have made tremendous sacrifices and embody duty and service.”
Prince Harry served in the Army for ten years and undertook two tours in Afghanistan. Despite his service and sacrifice, Prince Harry opted to make the appearance in a simple black suit.
The Duke of Sussex has been banned by King Charles from wearing his military uniform and medals unless it is an extraordinary occasion.
In September, Prince Harry received a slap down from King Charles, who declared that he was not allowed to wear his military uniform during Queen Elizabeth‘s funeral.
Close sources to Prince Harry revealed that he was hurt, insulted, and angered by his father’s decision.
Royal expert and author Christopher Andersen revealed that King Charles caused significant damage to his relationship with Prince Harry with the ban.
He shared: “I think that [reconciliation] might have been the intention, but the king’s decision to initially not permit Harry to wear his uniform and during this funeral [and the] fact that at times, it seemed as if Harry and Meghan were being shoved in the background and even shunned, that did a lot of damage, I think. So, I have to wait and see where they go with this.”
Many believe that Prince Harry will address that heartbroken episode in his upcoming book Spare.
