Ayanna Davis, a substitute English teacher, has been arrested in Florida for having sex with a teen male student.
The sex acts between the teacher and the unnamed student have been caught on a video that has since vanished.
Substitute teacher arrested after being caught on a Snapchat video allegedly having sex with a student.
A teacher in Florida, Ayanna Davis, has admitted to having sexual relations with a student after a Snapchat video was shared around the school.
Davis, 20, was working at Lakeland High School teaching English as a substitute teacher. On Friday, December 10, she was arrested after confessing to the charges.
Davis and the student allegedly had unprotected sex on four separate occasions. Two of the instances happened at Davis’s home, while the other two were at the student’s house.
The age of the victim is not known, but the person is reportedly not older than 16.
The account shared by the victim matched Davis’s confession. She appeared in court on Saturday, December 11, and a $60,000 bond was ordered for all five charges.
The teacher is scheduled to appear in court again on January 10 next year.
Florida police are desperately searching for the video of Ayanna Davis having sex with the student.
The investigation into this case was first launched on Friday, December 3, after a somewhat lewd Snapchat video allegedly showing the teacher and student having sex went viral within the school.
A student had informed the school’s resource officer that the Snapchat video was making its way around the school.
It was shared with a large group of students on the football team and circulated among other students.
Speaking on behalf of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff Grady Judd said officers have been unable to locate the Snapchat video so far.
“I know it’s out there someplace,” Sheriff Judd said. The Sheriff’s office has charged Ayanna Davis with offenses against a student by an authority figure.
Lakeland Police Department has also charged Davis with two counts of sexual battery.
“This is a clear violation of sexual battery laws. She was in a position of influence over the victim, and she took advantage of that for her own twisted pleasure,” Judd added.
New policy made hiring Ayanna Davis possible.
According to confirmed reports, Davis worked with Kelly Education Services, who supplied teachers to schools in the area.
Lakeland High School’s Superintendent, Frederick Heid, described the incident as a complete violation of trust between teachers and students.
A frustrated and disappointed Heid also said the teacher’s actions were disgraceful.
“We expect substitute teachers to uphold the same high standards of conduct and professionalism as our full-time educators,” said Heid in a statement. “The charges against this person are disgraceful and a complete violation of the trust that teachers build with their students. There is no room in our schools for this type of conduct.”
Kelly Education Services have been notified that Ayanna Davis can no longer work in public schools in Polk County.
Oddly enough, Ayanna Davis was able to obtain the job as a substitute teacher because of a new policy implemented by the Polk County school district.
In October of this year, the district changed its policy considerably, allowing anyone who is 20 years old or older with a high school or GED diploma to work as a substitute teacher.
