A source close to the actress spoke to The Daily Mail to say that she had many reasons to separate from the convicted rapist.

According to the person in the know, Bijou Phillips took the leap because she wanted to hold Danny Masterson accountable for his crimes.

The mother of one also wants to protect her assets. The insider shared: “A few reasons she has sought a divorce are twofold. Recently, friends and family have told her to be a mom first and to consider divorce because it really shows her daughter that eventually people need to be held accountable for what they do, even if it is someone they love.”

The source went on to say that money, land, and homes have pushed her to split. Danny Masterson, who has a net worth of $8 million, might be hit with lawsuits from his victims.

The person stated: “Bijou is also is doing it to protect her assets and her future. She doesn’t want to lose money, land, and housing over a future civil lawsuit against Danny, she is looking to protect her future and that is one big reason she has pursued divorce.”

The insider continued: “Bijou will never say anything negative about Danny’s parenting skills, he is incredible in that department. Bijou loves Danny, always will, and really hopes that his sentence is eventually lessened or reversed.”

According to TMZ, Danny Masterson was aware that his marriage would end but did not know all the reasons why. Masterson will spend the next 30 years of his life behind bars after being convicted of two rapes.

Bijou Phillips might be jumping from the sinking ship now. During the trial, she had nothing but praise for her husband.

In a letter to the judge, Phillips confessed: “We need him more than you can imagine. I know he has been convicted of serious crimes, but the man I married has only been an extraordinary husband to me and a devoted father to our daughter.”

She went on to say: “He helps her with homework every night. He teaches her math with kindness and patience. She is far above grade level in all subjects, reading three grades above her own, and that is thanks to the guidance and attention of her father.”
