Prince William took a trip to New York City and is now enjoying an ego trip, but King Charles III is quick to pull him down from his pedestal.
This week, the heir to the throne was in the Big Apple because he wanted to show the world that he is King material, a true statesman, and a leader, which is why he decided to leave Kate Middleton at home.
Prince William was determined to put the spotlight on his work via the Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit and on the fact that he is now a man of substance and gravitas.
He did not want the media to make a fuss about Kate Middleton’s fashion, her luscious hair, or sweet little talks about children and babies with the high-profile figures she meets.
By all accounts, Prince William’s visit to the United States was a success. While he was not able to meet with President Joe Biden this time around, Prince William stood shoulder to shoulder with former Prime Minister of New Zealand Jacinda Ardern and billionaires Bill Gates and Mike Bloomberg.
Upon his return to his castle in London, his staff has been celebrating his 48-hour American stop.
Via Vanity Fair, it was revealed: “Prince William’s two-day trip to the United States to promote his Earthshot Prize has been deemed “a great success” by sources close to the royal, who was recently voted more popular than President Biden by Americans in a Gallup poll. As William leaves the US following the Earthshot Summit, sources told Vanity Fair that the prince and his aides believe the tour has been “really successful” and he is quietly delighted by how well he was received.”
The publication continued: “Largely focused on domestic engagements and issues, William has only carried out a handful of overseas engagements since inheriting the title, and it is significant that he has traveled to America twice in the past year. “America is important to the Prince and Princess of Wales,” said an insider.”
However, as Prince Harry said in Spare, there is a constant competition in the Royal Family.
Prince William’s little victory tour was quickly dimmed by King Charles’s Tour de France. King Charles and his wife, Queen Camilla, traveled to Paris and Bordeaux, where the red carpet was rolled out by President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte Macron.
King Charles and his spouse were welcomed at Paris’ Arc de Triomphe “in an extravagant display of pageantry, complete with a symbolic lighting ceremony and theatrical flypast.”
The highlight of the state visit included King Charles giving a historic speech at the French parliament that focused on the ties between the two countries, green energy, and Ukraine.
His Majesty delighted the room by delivering most of his remarks in French and receiving a standing ovation.
King Charles, who was very active as Prince of Wales, traveled the world to represent his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.
This is why he seemed at ease taking the political stage, chatting with Macron, mingling with officials, and meeting with business leaders in Bordeaux.
Royal experts were quick to compare the two trips, unanimously declaring King Charles the better and most prepared statesman.
Richard Kay, editor at large for the Daily Mail, explained how His Majesty delivered a symbolic coup de grâce to Prince William: “During the meeting with Ecuador’s president, Lasso Mendoza, William’s conversation with the world leader was stilted. On those occasions, William doesn’t have the fluidity of his father who was so wonderful at that sort of meeting. But he’s learning, and he is learning, and it was impressive. One of the problems with William is that he’s not a natural on his feet. He’s slightly awkward on his feet.”
Prince William still has a few tricks to learn.
