Prince Harry and his spouse, Meghan Markle, have their work cut out for them if they wish to convince King Charles III and especially Queen Camilla that they are trustworthy and can be accepted into the royal fold.
After Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and their young children, Archie and Lilibet, wished King Charles a happy birthday, several media outlets reported that it was a breakthrough moment for the Montecito/London royals.
It was confirmed that Prince Harry has plans to speak to his father this week. What will they talk about, some royal watchers wonder?
It seems that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are hoping to take the reunion to the next phase, possibly with a face-to-face meeting for the Christmas holiday.
Sources close to the former actress and British soldier explained that they certainly would not say no to an invitation to spend Christmas at Sandringham.
A friend of Prince Harry and Markle told The Times this weekend: “I can’t imagine the Sussexes would decline an invitation to spend time with His Majesty. As of yet, there have not been any invitations for the holidays.”
Buckingham Palace did not directly comment on the story, but sources close to King Charles and Queen Camilla also spoke to The Daily Telegraph to say that Prince Harry and his wife need to slow down their horses.
A royal insider told the media outlet that Queen Camilla and King Charles are not happy about the fact that the birthday telephone call and other private details were rapidly leaked to the media.
The King and Queen saw that as a brutal reminder that their private interactions with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle always end up in the news.
The leaked conversation also generated anxiety for King Charles. The source shared: “It is a fear acknowledged even by friends of the couple. In the aftermath of Harry’s book. They realize they’ve got to a place where private conversations and calls could be questioned if they’re going to be private.”
It seems that King Charles now regrets the call because he is battling anxiety from the manner in which it was shared with the press.
The source said: “Those fears are as acute as ever. After Tuesday’s private phone call was made public. The King and Queen worry that if stories about phone calls and private conversations make it into the public domain, they will be accused of leaking to the press, even if it’s obvious it didn’t come from them. They just think, ‘It’s in the public domain, and public domain equals bad.’ Even if this had been the most positive story in the world from the King’s point of view, it would still have generated anxiety for him.”
Struggling with stress, anxiety, and afraid that the Christmas gathering will be leaked to the public, King Charles and his spouse have hit the brakes on any invitation for the pair for now.
