Taylor Swift and her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, have been enjoying a sweet romance for months. However, an online rumor is disturbing their peace. The adorable pair is now fighting back against those pushing the gossip.
It all started when a popular platform on social media claimed that Taylor Swift married her ex, Joe Alwyn, before their shocking split earlier this year. Moreover, the page behind the rumor said that the union was never legal.
Tree Paine, a spokesperson for the pop superstar, went after DeuxMoi for embracing the salacious item. The page claimed: “She DID have a ceremony in 2020 or 2021 in the UK and it was described to me as a ‘marriage’ by more than one person. It was NEVER made legal.”
When critics and Swift fans defended her, the owner of the platform responded with: “I have no reason to lie, I could give a s–t what she does!!!!! I’m sorry she didn’t tell you guys about it in a song but just because she doesn’t sing about something doesn’t mean it didn’t happen!!!”
The release of the song “You’re Losing Me” earlier this week is what brought the allegation to the surface. Many Swift fans think that the track is about their relationship.
The following lyrics really had a lot of supporters talking: “My heart won’t start anymore for you’ and ‘I wouldn’t marry me either.”
Paine, who has been working with Swift for a long time, wrote on Twitter: “Enough is enough with these fabricated lies about Taylor from Deuxmoi. There was NEVER a marriage or ceremony of ANY kind. This is an insane thing to post. It’s time for you to be held accountable for the pain and trauma you cause with posts like these.”
Her words prompted an apology from the owner of the gossip platform. The person wrote: “Well I make zero dollars from lying.. Can publicists say the same? Also, to relate something that is in reference to something that happened years ago to ‘pain & trauma’ after what just happened seems like a poor choice of words. Either way, I apologize to Taylor.”
Before the breakup, there were rumors that Swift and Alwyn were engaged. A source told The Sun at the time: “Taylor and Joe are incredibly happy, and very, very in love. They’ve actually been engaged for a few months but have only told their inner-inner circle — basically immediate family, and trusted, very old friends. Everyone has been sworn to secrecy, too.”
The same piece claimed that Swift only wore the engagement ring in private.
Some observers say that Swift’s team is trying to use this mini-scandal to deflect from something else.
