Michelle Obama has let the world know exactly how she feels about politics, and it may be time for people to accept her truths.
It is convention season for the Democrats, but it is starting to look like a frustrating one. The highly anticipated political event of the year is set to kick off next week in Chicago, Illinois.
According to sources who spoke to USA Today, Kamala Harris‘s formal crowning as the Democratic nominee will be a glorious occasion attended by all the party’s power players.
The Democratic National Convention’s schedule includes speeches from former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on Monday night. President Joe Biden will also address the American people that night.
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre explained to the media that Biden understands that his presence is required during such a critical and historic moment.
Jean-Pierre stated: “You could expect this president to focus on these remarks in the next several days leading up to Monday. He understands this is an incredibly important moment he will have next week at the Democratic National Convention. He’s still very much the leader of the party, right? And he takes that very seriously. And he’s also very proud of his vice president.”
Former President Barack Obama is expected to speak Tuesday night. Former President Bill Clinton will have the floor on Wednesday night.
Harris, alongside her vice presidential nominee, Tim Walz, will formally accept the presidential nomination on Thursday night. It is a formidable lineup of speakers, but one notable absence stands out — Michelle Obama. So, will Michelle Obama really sit out the event?
Axios has a somewhat noteworthy answer. The publication shared: “Asked whether Michelle Obama would speak at the Democrats’ August convention in Chicago — her hometown — a spokesperson for her declined to comment.”
Michelle Obama has become the rock star of American politics, with the ability to fill up arenas worldwide and sell millions of books with her powerful and moving words.
Her influence in the Democratic Party is significant, and her potential absence raises the question: Can a crucial political event in Chicago truly be complete without the former first lady, who proudly calls herself the “girl from the South Side?”
The party has to do without the former first lady. Sources told the media outlet that her decision to be less present and engaging is based on her “longstanding distaste for partisan politics.”
This stems from her belief that politics should be about serving the people, not about party lines. While Barack Obama will put his personal opinions and feelings about Kamala Harris aside and stomp for her on the campaign trail for the sake of the party and the country, do not expect Michelle Obama to do the same.
She will continue to push her get-out-the-vote initiatives, write books, and stay out of the limelight.
