An officer named Arthur Williams, who was part of The Baltimore Police Department, has resigned after he had been placed on suspension. He was caught on video violently beating 26-year-old Dashawn McGrier.
The official statement regarding the resignation read: “The officer involved in yesterday’s incident is no longer with the Baltimore Police Department. Interim Commissioner Tuggle has accepted his resignation. The second officer remains on administrative duties. This remains an active criminal investigation.”
The shocking events took place on Friday near Q’s Bar and Liquors on Monument Street in Baltimore.
Williams walked up to the victim and demanded to see some form of identification.
McGrier refused, and an angry Williams started to punch him over and over.
TW: Police Violence
This is a video of the @BaltimorePolice reported to be from earlier today.
And this is why folks don’t have any faith in the police. @MayorPugh50, what’s your response to this? What is happening with the consent decree? pic.twitter.com/yABsCZDEmq

Williams hit the civilian so many times that he was knocked to the ground. In the video, McGrier could be heard screaming for help.
Williams’ partner failed to intervene during the brutal beat down.
McGrier’s lawyer, Warren Brown, who revealed Officer Williams’identiy, said his client was taken to the hospital and he suffered a fractured jaw and injuries to one eye socket, nose, ribs, and left leg.
Brown explained that this is the second time that McGrier and Williams have had a violent encounter this year.
On June 26, McGrier and former Officer Williams had a face-to-face, which resulted in him being charged with assault, disorderly conduct, obstructing and hindering and resisting and interfering with arrest.
He was jailed for 48 hours and is set to appear in court on August 22.
The Baltimore Police Commissioner, Gary Tuggle, also released a statement saying he was “disturbed” by the video and the matter is being investigated.
The shocking video quickly went viral on the Internet. One commenter stated, “Wow. This is horrible and disgusting. At least he didn’t shoot him, though. If I was a loved one of the victim (s) I’d rather cops do this and get sued rather than get away with murder.”
Activists say it is time for real reforms.
