A black man named Corey Lewis had the police called on him by an unnamed white woman because he was babysitting two children who are not the same color as him.
Talking to the media, the children’s parents — David Parker and Dana Mango — said they are angry over what occurred.
Lewis, who is from Atlanta, Georgia, was caring for a brother and a sister – 6 and ten years old respectively.
The man runs a mentoring program called Inspired By Lewis, and he was at a Walmart store with the children when the woman started to ask him questions.
The lady also asked to speak to the 10-year-old girl to know if she was well and Lewis refused, so she followed him back to the home where he operates the program and called the police.
A Cobb County police officer arrived on the scene and had a long conversation with Lewis who appeared baffled at the whole situation.
The police also spoke to the parents of the children who confirmed that Lewis was merely doing his job.
Lewis, who was filming the entire exchange, turned the camera and said: “I’m being followed and harassed. I got two kids I’m babysitting. She pulled up talking about, are the kids ok? Why wouldn’t they be ok?”
Mango, the angry mother, said she was shocked by the incident and added: “I said are you saying that because there’s an African American male driving my two white kids, that he was stopped and pulled over and questioned and he said I’m sorry ma’am that’s exactly what I’m saying.”
Parker, the furious dad, concluded by saying that Lewis was targeted for “babysitting while black.”
The identity of the woman who called the police has not been revealed, but local media outlets are searching for her.
One person reacted to the surprising story by saying: “She needs to be arrested then! Minding your business is free. He needs to sue her and the damn police period!”
Another comment read: “Wow. I cannot believe the world we live in; this is why no one can ever get along… let the man live his life. They call the police on everybody except those damn Priest that be dry humping their sons.”
This person explained why the Caucasian woman was wrong to call the authorities: “All these missing children and kids being snatched to human traffickers in your own neighborhoods, but y’all worried about a black man babysitting two white children who didn’t look in distressed or in danger ?aw ok!”
Many of the parents whose children attend Lewis’s program have taken to social media to defend him and praised his professionalism.
