The cold case of a 23-year-old woman, Savannah Spurlock, a mother of four, from Kentucky who went missing half a year ago has finally come to a conclusion, although not a happy one.
Authorities have confirmed that the remains that were recently discovered buried close to a Garrard County, Ky property match the identity of Spurlock, who had been missing since January.
Officials have arrested one suspect, David Sparks, 23, of Lancaster, in connection with the crime, charging him with several offenses including evidence tampering, but no murder charge at the moment. He has pleaded not guilty.
It is not clear how the story went down just yet, but according to official reports, the remains of the woman were found on a property belonging to the parents of the suspect. Her body was naked and wrapped in several black garbage bags inside of a 19-inch graveyard.
However, the man’s exact connection to the crime remains unclear as he was only charged with abuse of a corpse and tampering with physical evidence. The woman had left a bar with three men, including the suspect. Police interviewed the three men and the victim’s blood was found in the suspect’s bedroom.
Sparks said he fell asleep and when he woke up, she was gone. Moreover, the case contains a video showing the woman entering the suspect’s home on January 4. She was not seen leaving.
Neighbors told the Daily Mail that they heard noise coming the suspect’s home on that day.
One of them shared: “I got up, and I listened, and I know they were coming from that house. They didn’t start looking for her for a while after, but when the police came, I just knew. I knew what I had heard. I know something bad happened in there.”
The suspect has reportedly been taken to jail and transferred to Lincoln County Jail, but a lot about his situation remains unclear.
Additional evidence discovered at the scene has shed some light onto the case, as authorities have identified a range of other items connected to the case.
An autopsy was conducted on the remains, and the coroner will then reveal the cause of death, which should hopefully bring some clarity to the situation. Sparks will face a grand jury on August 14 and indictment on August 16.
Many have been anxiously asking questions about the developments online, but from what it seems at the moment, it will take some time before authorities start responding to those inquiries and revealing more information about the tragedy to the public.
It was Sparks’ father who first reported the foul odor coming from the property’s backyard.
