President Donald Trump came up with the following idea to stop hurricanes from hitting the United States — nuke them.
According to several senior Homeland Security and national security officials who have spoken to the media, the former reality TV star turned politician had a meeting with them and said multiple times that nuking hurricanes is the way to go.
During a 2017 hurricane briefing at the White House, Trump said: “I got it. I got it. Why don’t we nuke them? They start forming off the coast of Africa, as they’re moving across the Atlantic, we drop a bomb inside the eye of the hurricane, and it disrupts it. Why can’t we do that?”
According to Axios’ Jonathan Swan, one official responded by saying: “Sir, we’ll look into that.”
Trump also asked for the number of storms/hurricanes to make landfall in the U.S. and told his staff members to give the matter a serious look.
The person, who spoke to the media, said: “I was knocked back on his heels. You could hear a gnat fart in that meeting. People were astonished. After the meeting ended, we thought, ‘What the f—? What do we do with this?’”
A White House official responded to the news by saying: “We don’t comment on private discussions that the president may or may not have had with his national security team.”
Another official gave the following explanation: “His goal — to keep a catastrophic hurricane from hitting the mainland — is not bad. His objective is not bad. What people near the president do is they say ‘I love a president who asks questions like that, who’s willing to ask tough questions.’… It takes strong people to respond to him in the right way when stuff like this comes up. For me, alarm bells weren’t going off when I heard about it, but I did think somebody is going to use this to feed into ‘the president is crazy’ narrative.”
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration had previously revealed that nuking hurricanes could release deadly radioactive particles all over the world.
One person had this to say about the comment: “All the other countries are laughing their butts off. They know he’s so inept at being a president much less a man. Damn, what else is he going to come up with?”
Another voter bashed Trump: “Just when you think he couldn’t possibly say anything more idiotic and stupid, he surprises us all over again. ??? That’s what you get when you grow up as a rich spoilt brat where reading was considered work and thinking was something of a novelty!”
This critic shared this opinion: “Oh, dear God, please tell me he didn’t say this. This cannot be real; this cannot be real. What if that makes the storm stronger? We will have a radioactive hurricane coming our way.”
Trump is currently at the G7 meeting in Biarritz, France.
