When Prince Harry met then-actress Meghan Markle, he rapidly fell for her because she was opinionated and determined to make her mark in the world — her own way.
If the description above fits another British royal family member, that is because it fits the late Princess Diana to a T.
Paul Burrell, who worked as Diana’s butler for many years, recently did an interview where he spoke of the similarities between Meghan and her mother-in-law.
According to the former employee, he is not the only one who noticed how much the two strong-headed women were alike.
He thinks that Prince Harry was most likely intrigued, captivated by Meghan’s fierceness and stubbornness to fight the status quo.
While talking to Closer, Burrell said he firmly believes that Harry was attracted to Meghan in part because she is a lot like his mother.
Burrell, who knew Diana, the People’s Princess, very well, went on to make this confession — he does not believe that Harry’s mother and wife would have gotten along despite being so much alike.
For more than ten years, Burrell worked for Diana until her death in 1997.
He revealed: “Harry went for and married Meghan because she’s like Diana. Both women who would always stand up for what they believe in and wouldn’t be pushovers.”
Burrell said Diana and Meghan’s strength and independence could have “clashed” at times.
He explained what would have occurred if the ladies had a chance to meet: “I think, possibly, they would have clashed. I imagine it would have been two strong, independent women with different views on things—it would have been a battle between Meghan’s way and Diana’s way.”
Burrell also pointed to the big difference between the two princesses.
Due to the fact that Meghan was raised in Hollywood and had an acting career and an impressive PR team, she was more media-savvy going into her marriage and becoming a member of the royal family than Diana was.
Burrell went on to share: “I think the main difference between them is that Meghan has a game plan, whereas Diana was young and naïve. Diana did the book with Andrew Morton and courted the press over the years because she didn’t have a voice. And her strong-mindedness meant she cared, and she felt the people of the country had a right to know what had gone on behind closed doors.”
Meghan and Harry, who recently ditched their lives in England for a Hollywood home owned by entertainment mogul Tyler Perry, will share their journey in the upcoming book, Finding Freedom.
The anticipated biography was written by reporters Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand, who are friends with Archie‘s parents.
Finding Freedom is based on hours of interviews with the couple’s friends, and close allies will be out on August 11.
