Is Katie Holmes taking a dig at her ex-husband, Tom Cruise, with her latest move on social media? Many observers seem to think that is exactly the case after the 41-year-old mother of one decided to follow Thandie Newton on Instagram.
Holmes started following Newton days after her viral interview with New York magazine, where she described her experience working with Cruise on Mission: Impossible 2 in 2000 as “scary.”
The 47-year-old Westworld actress made some interesting revelations about filming a difficult scene with the Top Gun star and how he was not very happy with her performance.
Newton said this about working with Cruise, 57: “So we filmed the entire scene with me being him — because, believe me, I knew the lines by then — and him playing me. And it was the most unhelpful . . . I can’t think of anything less revealing. It just pushed me further into a place of terror and insecurity.”
She continued: “I was so scared of Tom. He was a very dominant individual. He tries super hard to be a nice person. But the pressure. He takes on a lot. And I think he has this sense that only he can do everything as best as it can be done.”
The Dawson’s Creek actress was married to Cruise from 2006 to 2012, and they have a daughter together named Suri Cruise.
After the divorce, Holmes had a semi-secretive longterm relationship with Cruise’s friend and Collateral co-star, Jamie Foxx.
Following Newton after her revelation is a strong symbolic move for Holmes, who has mostly avoided talking about her former spouse since they split.
Moreover, some have blasted Newton for “whining” about something not very dramatic. For Cruise supporters, he is just a consummate professional, and he did not take advantage of the actress. They say Newton should grow a thicker skin.
