Prince Philip, who was married to Queen Elizabeth for 73 years and passed away earlier this year, wanted her to abdicate before she gets too old for the job.
The late Duke of Edinburgh died on April 9 at the age of 99 after spending one month in the hospital. Prince Philip had retired from public life in 2017, and according to a royal expert, he was hoping that his wife would do the same.
Prince Philip’s remark was mixed with humor, but it seems he was serious about the plea for the Queen to retire. Her Majesty, who will celebrate the 70th anniversary of her reign in 2022, had other plans and did not listen.
With the death of her husband, some are wondering if she will change her mind after her Platinum Jubilee in June of next year.
Antonio Caprarica, an Italian journalist, who published the book Elizabeth. Forever queen. Life, the kingdom, the secrets in April, made the revelations during a chat with London One Radio.
Caprarica stated: “It’s time to go away as long as one can with their legs rather than getting a kick in the backside and be thrown out like an old shoe. I believe few people have dared to tell the Queen that she could become an old shoe. Then, as we know, she did not become one.”
The expert knew his subjects and had spent quite a bit of time with the royal couple. He confirmed that Prince Philip loved women, and he even tried to seduce the journalist’s wife, Iolanta Miroshnikova.
The author explained: “I was lucky enough to meet him at Buckingham Palace on the occasion of the dinner held in honor of the then President of the Republic Carlo Azeglio Ciampi. There was a very long chat after dinner. When he discovered that my wife was like him of Greek descent, he struck a button that never ended. I was a little jealous, knowing his reputation as a heartthrob. And when I saw that the conversation dragged on for a little too long, we began a long, very pleasant chat because, with Filippo [Prince Philip], you could talk freely about everything, unlike Elisabetta [Queen Elizabeth], who has always had very few arguments.”
Queen Elizabeth is the longest-serving British monarch in history. Her grandmother, Queen Victoria‘s 63-year record was surpassed in 2015.
The COVID-19 pandemic changed many things in the monarchy, with Queen taking on a very different role. Prince William and his wife, Kate Middleton, took on more prominent tasks. Prince Charles is also said to be a major factor in the recent decisions involving the royal family.
Some observers say that Queen does not need to abdicate because she is well surrounded by a group of very capable people.
