There was a significant turning point in the relationship between Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and Prince William, according to an upcoming book about the ins and outs of the royal family.
In 2018, a pregnant Meghan Markle and her husband, Prince Harry, set out for their first royal trip to represent Queen Elizabeth II.
The power couple traveled to multiple countries, including Australia, Fiji, New Zealand, and Tonga, where they had grueling schedules with 75 engagements.
Other than one minor hiccup — Markle suffered a security scare during a meeting at a Fijian market that was later dubbed a snub — the tour was a huge success.
Markle and Prince Harry were met by large adoring crowds wherever they went. They were showered with praises by the global media for how they behaved with the people who attended their events.
The pair broke protocols to show warmth and affection to the locals who came to see them.
The raving reviews of the tour allegedly went straight in the Duke and Duchess of Sussex‘s heads and they came to the conclusion that they were better at the gig than Prince William.
In his new book Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the war between the Windsors, royal biographer Tom Bower explained that Prince Harry and his wife were also convinced that Prince William was jealous of their success.
According to the investigative journalist, while Down Under, Prince Harry and Markle realized that rules needed to change — they needed to become independent and take part in their own tours without Prince William and Kate Middleton.
The pair went as far as believing that they could do the job without the Queen‘s help.
In an extract published by The Sunday Times, the author claimed: “On October 23, one week into the tour, the die was cast. Harry and Meghan seemed to have convinced themselves that William was jealous of their success in Australia. The time was right for ‘change.’ They needed to break out of Kensington Palace’s claustrophobic fishbowl.”
Here is what Prince Harry proposed to the Queen: “Harry proposed that the Palace should rewrite the rulebook. Rather than Meghan being a dutiful member of the supporting cast, she should star as a campaigner, independent of the Cambridges and even of the Queen.”
The author also claimed that Prince Harry told himself that Markle had it in her to take the royal brand to another level.
He said: “…perhaps encouraged by Harry, Meghan appeared to conjure a fantasy that she could provide the leadership the monarchy required. Her activism would enhance the brand.”
Obviously, the rewriting of the rule book never occurred because the former American actress and Prince Harry clashed with the royals on many levels, and they eventually stepped down from their royal duties and moved to California in 2020.
Since then, the pair have become activists and paid speakers who deliver speeches on political matters, injustices, and women’s rights.
