Her staff members will talk when Queen Elizabeth II is away, according to one of England’s top investigative journalists.
A well-known aide to Her Majesty made a dark comment about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle that has now been revealed to the public.
In his new book entitled Revenge: Meghan, Harry and the war between the Windsors, author Tom Bower claimed that Lady Susan Hussey predicted that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s marriage would end badly.
In 2018, as Prince Harry and the former American actress were getting ready for their lavish wedding, Susan Hussey and other high-profile royals were discussing Markle’s role in the Monarchy.
The royal family had plans for Markle to become the patron of the National Theatre. Markle turned the role over to the Duchess of Cornwall after she stepped down from her royal duties along with Prince Harry as senior royals in 2020.
During a lunch party attended by the Queen‘s most trusted royal aides and theatrical professionals to talk about Markle’s potential patronages, the longtime aide to the royal family did not see the point of the conversation about Markle’s future because she believed that the Susexes were heading for divorce.
According to the bombshell book: “In London, Lady Susan Hussey had shortly before [New Year’s Day] enjoyed lunch with a group of theatre executives and directors. While discussing the possibility that Meghan might become associated with the National Theatre after the wedding, Hussey became unexpectedly serious about the couple’s future. ‘That will all end in tears,’ warned Hussey. ‘Mark my words.'”
Lady Susan Hussey, a godmother to Prince William, has been a lady-in-waiting to Queen Elizabeth since the 1960s.
According to the author, Lady Susan, 83, was selected to be part of the team of palace courtiers to help Markle navigate the complex royal life.
Bower wrote: “After the engagement had been announced, a team was assembled to introduce Meghan sensitively to the quirks and expectations of royal life and service to the nation. Hussey and other close companions of the Queen visited Meghan in Nottingham Cottage to offer help and advice. There would be, said the Palace, six months of listening and learning: She is going to proceed with humility.”
While Camilla Parker Bowles has sent out people close to her to deny a racist comment she made about Prince Harry and Markle’s baby in the biography, Queen Elizabeth and the Palace have done no such thing for Lady Susan Hussey.
With Bower’s book, the Queen has decided to keep her tight-lipped approach to public life with the mantra of “never complain, never explain.”
Many are wondering if she will do the same when Prince Harry publishes his memoir later this year.
