Beyoncé Revisits A Jay-Z Scandal On ‘Renaissance’ Album As Kelis Demands Respect

Beyonce Jay Z New Album Kelis

Beyoncé is back with a new album after a six-year hiatus. The 40-year-old pop music star is in top form on her seventh studio album, Renaissance, which was released on Friday.

The album leaked online earlier this week and is one of her best releases to date. It is the project of an artist at the height of her game and having fun with her gift.

It is, at a time, brilliant, confusing, and messy. Talking about mess, the mother of three has decided to revisit that infamous 2014 elevator fight involving her husband, Jay-Z, and sister Solange.

The embarrassing moment occurred after the Met Gala, and it was reportedly fueled by alleged cheating on the hip-hop billionaire’s part. Jay-Z’s cheating was first covered on her 2016 album, Lemonade.

In “Plastic Off The Sofa,” Queen Bey pours her soul and gives a glimpse into the couple’s 21-year relationship. She croons: “We don’t need the world’s acceptance. They’re too hard on me; they’re too hard on you, boy.”

The Houston native continues with: “Boy, I know you can’t help but to be yourself around me, yourself around me. And I know nobody’s perfect, so I’ll let you be, I’ll let you be. It’s the way that you wear your emotions on both of your sleeves, ’til the face you make when I tell you that I had to leave.”

The talented artist also warns her hubby that he will never find another woman better than her. She adds: “I’m one of one, I’m number one, I’m the only one. Don’t even waste your time trying to compete with me. No one else in this world can think like me. I’m twisted, contradicted; keep him addicted.”

Jay-Z also gets some sweet lyrics on the track as she alludes to his tough childhood in New York. She sings: “I’ll always be your secret weapon in your arsenal. And I know you had it rough growing up, but that’s OK; I like it rough. Baby, when you let your feelings get in the way. I still like it, baby, oh I like it, baby.”

On the new track “Cozy,” Beyoncé praises her sister for being fierce. She reveals: “She’s a god, she’s a hero, she survived, all she been through, confident and she lethal. Might I suggest you don’t f*** with my sis because she comfortable. Comfortable in my skin, cozy with who I am.”

The release of the album has been flawless to some extent. The only negative aspect came from singer Kelis, who accused the former Destiny’s Child singer of theft for not reaching out before sampling one of her songs.

However, it appears that Kelis does not own the rights linked to the track. The controversy gained some steam on social media hours before the album was released.

It is unclear if Beyoncé will reach out in some fashion and offer an olive branch for the fallout over “Energy.” While many understand the way Kelis feels about the situation, they also acknowledge that technically Beyoncé has not done anything wrong.

Many say she should deal with the producers of the song, Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo.

Interestingly, Kelis is credited on the tracklisting for Renaissance along with Teena Marie.
