Comedian and former TV host Jay Leno has decided to give his millions of fans an update on his major health scare.
Earlier this month, Leno revealed that he suffered severe burns to his face and hand due to a gasoline fire while working on one of his many vintage cars.
The former Tonight Show host, 72, has confirmed that he was discharged from the Grossman Burn Center in Los Angeles on Monday.
Leno posed for a sweet picture surrounded by the staff of medical experts who cared for him. Jay Leno, wearing his signature all-jeans outfit, could be seen smiling from ear to ear.
The burns on his lower face and left hand are visible, but he looked happy and healthy in the photo.
The picture was accompanied by a statement from Leno’s physician, Dr. Peter Grossman, who explained that he is delighted by the progress that his patient has been making.
He reassured concerned fans that Leno is expected to make a full recovery.
Grossman said via the statement: “Comedian Jay Leno was released from the Grossman Burn Center today. After a 10-day stay at the facility, Jay will receive follow-up care at the Grossman Outpatient Burn Clinic for burns to his face, chest, and hands he received during a fire at his home garage. Jay would like to let everyone know how thankful he is for the care he received and is very appreciative of all of the well wishes. He is looking forward to spending Thanksgiving with his family and friends and wishes everyone a wonderful holiday.”
Dr. Grossman added: “I am pleased with Jay’s progress, and I am optimistic that he will make a full recovery.”
The incident occurred on November 7 as the retired late-night TV host was working on a vehicle in his garage. Leno was under the car, repairing the steam engine, when the fire started.
The star of Jay Leno’s Garage was rapidly pulled from underneath the car and rushed to the Burn Center and treated for his injuries.
Days after the heartbreaking accident, Jay Leno broke his silence to thank his backers for their prayers and get well wishes.
He said via an official statement: “I got some serious burns from a gasoline fire. I am okay. Just need a week or two to get back on my feet.”
Supporters have taken to social media to express their love for the TV legend.
