King Charles III has vowed to protect the British monarchy and find ways to take it in the modern era. Months after ascending to the throne, his approach is becoming more discernible.
It is a mixture of toughness and humility. The tough touch is visible in the way he treated Prince Harry and Meghan Markle during the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II in September.
The humility is the new King covering his head as he visits a Sikh temple in Luton. It is also his reaction when different people throw eggs at him.
Moreover, for the Sovereign, in order to preserve the monarchy, it needs to be made smaller. King Charles wants his reign to be compact. Even his coronation is set to be a simple affair.
King Charles’s approach is in direct contradiction with The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, who are constantly making sweeping promises.
The power couple uses big words and vows to tackle things like racism, inequality, and climate change. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle talk like powerful kings and world leaders.
However, in reality, they are mainly two big celebrities, with a huge following that is primarily interested in their salacious tales about the Royal Family.
King Charles seems to be aware of the limitations of his power. That is not the case for the Sussexes. Will they ever get down from their high horses?
In the first teaser for the so-called historical Netflix documentary, the former actress says, “When the stakes are this high, doesn’t it make more sense to hear our story from us?”
Statements like these would be more suitable for a president dealing with a war or pandemic. The couple followed the same formula at the Ripple of Hope Awards Gala in New York City on Tuesday.
Prince Harry stated: “Bobby Kennedy said, ‘Each time a man stands up for an ideal or acts to improve the lot of others or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope.’ And as we all face a complete and challenging time in the world, we choose the path of optimism of care for each other and our communities. We understand this honor, not about the culmination of a life’s work, but instead, and in many ways for us, a beginning.”
Markle added: “He also said those ripples build a current which can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance.”
It is clear that the Sussexes want to do some good, but King Charles’s phlegmatic personality could serve as an inspiration.
