Lionel Messi Leaves As PSG Opt For Marco Asensio As His Replacement

After losing soccer icon Lionel Messi and Spanish legend Sergio Ramos, French giants Paris Saint-Germain are in the process of rebuilding their squad.

It will not be an easy process because there is a lot of pressure on the Ligue 1 club. Fans want PSG to win everything every season.

However, the UEFA Champions League has been a real challenge for the team. In over 50 years of existence, the club has not been able to lift the coveted trophy once.

There is also the fact that PSG have to do a lot of things right to keep their top player, Kylian Mbappé, happy. Mbappé can leave PSG for free next year if the club cannot build a competitive squad around him.

Real Madrid winger Marco Asensio is set to join PSG with a contract that will last till June 2027. At his best, the Spanish star can complete the squad and bring a lot of creativity to the table.

However, he is often injured, and critics say that motivation is also a problem. If Asensio can address those issues, the future could be bright for him.

He is set to replace Messi, but some are not convinced that he is on the same level. PSG are hoping that he will be able to create opportunities during the big matches. Another major advantage is the fact that he is coming for free because his contract in Madrid is ending at the end of the month.

Early Sunday, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano broke the news on Twitter. Romano wrote: “Paris Saint-Germain are set to complete the signing of Marco Asensio, here we go — confirmed. Verbal agreement in place 🚨🔴🔵🇪🇸 #PSG.

The contract will be valid until June 2027, Luis Campos is on it. The expectation is to get it signed next week after his farewell to Real Madrid fans.”

Many Madrid fans have taken to social media to express their gratitude for his contributions to the club’s history. One supporter wrote: “Thank you for everything you’ve done for us all these years, for those great goals you’ve scored and unforgettable moments, I’ll miss you, but I wish you the best and in this new stage, anyway you’ll always be a Madridista at heart!!”

The elegant attacking midfielder won La Liga and the Champions League three times during the seven years spent in the Spanish capital.

In the following statement, he explained why he is leaving: “However, the time has come where I have to make a difficult decision. I have decided to embark on a new direction in my career in search of a project in which I can achieve new goals.”

Real Madrid, like PSG, are going through some significant changes. Their top goalscorer Karim Benzema is leaving after 14 years at the club.

As for PSG, they are expected to name Julian Nagelsmann as their head coach with some help with Thierry Henry as his top assistant. PSG are hoping that those choices are enough to win the top trophy in European soccer finally.

Lucas Hernandez and Bernardo Silva are also serious transfer targets for the French club.
