Donald Trump is fighting against multiple lawsuits and investigations that he calls “witch hunts” to keep his real estate empire standing in New York, but if at the end of the court drama he is backed against a corner, who could save him?
According to several business, legal, and political experts, Donald Trump has only one savior. Former President Donald Trump is facing an uphill battle in the $250 million civil fraud trial brought by New York Attorney General Letitia James.
The billionaire politician and his two oldest sons, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, along with multiple Trump Organization executives, are accused of “fraudulently inflating the values of Trump’s assets for financial benefits.”
James’s ultimate goal with the lawsuit is to permanently bar Trump and his family and close associates from running a business in New York.
Manhattan Supreme Court Judge Arthur Engoron has already dealt a first and potentially fatal blow to the Trump Organization — he has ordered the cancellation of the company’s New York business certificates.
Ivanka Trump has been dismissed as a co-defendant by a New York appeals court. Tiffany Trump is not involved in the financial fraud trial.
Donald Trump’s youngest son, Barron Trump, will soon be 18 and therefore an adult, and Newsweek asked if he will be the one to help his father retain his legacy.
Former federal prosecutor Michael McAuliffe bluntly answered that Barron Trump will not be his father’s savior. He said: “In short, no.”
He explained why: “As for the Trump businesses, an 18-year-old isn’t a realistic candidate to take on true executive duties. It is nearly impossible for defendants to hide or transfer large assets from the court. Because the former president is embroiled in several civil and criminal cases, any financial moves would be under particular scrutiny. The judge in the New York case has already taken the precautionary step of blocking Donald from transferring any assets while the trial is underway.”
McAuliffe also revealed that Donald Trump’s legal turmoil makes it almost impossible to sell his business.
If Barron Trump cannot answer Donald Trump’s prayer, and he cannot seek buyers or transfer his business, Melania Trump will become his Hail Mary.
The first lady’s former chief of staff, Stephanie Grisham, told the media outlet that she would only accept the job if her demands were met and she was guaranteed “some major control or power.”
She said: “I just don’t know that she would want to take on that much responsibility unless she was guaranteed some major control or power.”
She added: “I suppose she would potentially do it for Barron’s sake so he could eventually run everything if he wanted, but I don’t think she would do anything if there’s a potential that she would lose any kind of money or be on the hook for paying taxes, etc.”
Donald Trump’s attorneys are fighting the “overwhelming bias” case by filing for a mistrial. Trump’s lawyers said in the motion: “In this case, the evidence of apparent and actual bias is tangible and overwhelming. Such evidence, coupled with an unprecedented departure from standard judicial procedure, has tainted these proceedings, and a mistrial is warranted.”
Mr. Trump is also betting that winning the election in 2024 could help him in some of those cases.
