Prince William is indicating that there is a change in how business is conducted within the monarchy. He is making it clear that the late Queen’s famous “Never Complain, Never Explain” motto is outdated and ineffective in an era of rampant, rapid technology and a constant need for information, especially the juicy, headline-making types.
Prince William has watched as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle dominated the media with interviews and leaks. Now, William has decided the Sussexes cannot monopolize press attention, so he has begun briefings to counter lies with truth when needed.
The Canadian Blindsiding
Prince Harry recently put King Charles III in an embarrassing and uncomfortable position. When William landed in Brazil for the Earthshot event, Harry announced a Canadian mini-tour via his spokesperson, including Remembrance Day events and visits to military charities.
William was furious, saying he was blindsided by Harry’s Canadian tour. He was unhappy Harry overshadowed his major event. “Of all weeks,” one friend of William’s told The Royalist, “this was the one week he needed the family to be pulling for him. Instead, it felt like they were pulling against him. He was left hurt and angry.”
Harry insisted he shared his schedule with King Charles before Canada, but the King, for unknown reasons, did not inform William. The Prince of Wales called Harry a spoiled brat for stealing the spotlight and competing.
Harry’s Courtesy Claim Debunked
This week, Prince William provided an update: King Charles backed him. King Charles never received Prince Harry’s Canadian tour schedule in advance, contrary to Harry’s claim.
Kensington Palace (Prince William’s office) and Buckingham Palace (King Charles’s office) have confirmed to The Times that Prince Harry offered no courtesy via his family about the trip.
The outlet shared: “When the Prince of Wales set foot on Sugarloaf Mountain at the start of a five-day visit to Brazil, the phones of the assembled press pack started to ping. The messages were not updates on the prince’s itinerary, but an announcement from Prince Harry’s office that the Duke of Sussex had travel plans of his own. He would be travelling to Toronto, Canada, later that week to mark ‘Remembrancetide.'”
A Question of Silence
It went on to say: “The duke’s office added that ‘the Palace’ had been informed in advance ‘as a courtesy.’ However, it appears no one at the Palace received the memo, leading to questions as to whether it was ever sent.”
Royal aides claimed that Prince Harry must be misremembering that he gave a warning because he did not. One source said: “It was a bit rum to claim the Palace had been informed when nobody at either Buckingham Palace or Kensington Palace appeared to have received any advance notice of the trip before it was released to the press. When the duke’s office was asked when they gave the courtesy warning and to whom, there came no reply.”
Buckingham Palace Denies Prior Knowledge
Via PEOPLE magazine, Buckingham Palace made the rare comment that Harry’s Canada trip surprised aides, implying they were not informed.
This situation is complicated by Harry’s recent meeting with his father, during which they agreed that Harry would share his official schedule with the family to provide transparency and avoid conflicts.
The official involvement of Buckingham Palace in disputing Prince Harry’s claim to have given “courtesy notice” is highly significant. This denial — supported by King Charles having Prince William’s back — transforms the dispute from a private misunderstanding into a public demonstration of a bold-faced lie, which reflects poorly on both Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s credibility.
