Several videos have surfaced showing a group of seven men fighting as four New York City Police Department cops and one supervisor stood, watched them, and took no actions to intervene.
It has been confirmed by multiple clips that surfaced online that the incident took place at around 5 a.m. Saturday on Dyckman Street near Post Avenue. The New York Post broke the story.
At some point during the brawl, the supervisor could be seen getting closer to the men on the floor but failed to order them to stop.
In a statement issued by the authorities, it has been revealed that the matter is being investigated.
A spokesman for the NYPD said the following: “We are aware of the incident and it is under internal review.”
Four of the seven men have been identified. Johnlauds Chevalier, 26, and Lewis Medina, 34, have been arrested and charged with assault and given desk appearance tickets.
Police issued summonses for disorderly conduct to Jose Manuel Rojas and Frany Luna Frias. Thus far, it is not known why the men were fighting.
The New York City Police Department is also investigating another odd incident involving their own. Earlier this month, a video went viral because it showed two NYPD officers in uniforms fighting with each other.
In the video, two marked NYPD SUVs are visible — one with flashing lights parked near West 116th Street and Lenox Avenue in Harlem where an officer still in uniform steps out. The police officer confronts another officer who attempted several times to push him away.
At some point, a third officer arrived and tried to break up the fight.
Last week, police Commissioner James O’Neill spoke during the department’s monthly crime stats meeting and said he was disappointed by the actions of the officers and added: “We hire human beings, it should never happen, but we are looking into it.”
Some of the seven men involved the brawl had previous run-ins with the law.
